Class Difficulty: Moderate
Role: Support/Damage
Available to races: Elf, High Elf, Hobbit, Man, River Hobbit, Stout-axe
Gameplay: Burglars are masters of debuffing, skills that cause foes to deal less damage, or be easier to defeat. They utilize their Trick skills to debuff foes, and can later remove the Tricks for additional benefits. Burglars also have stealth skills, and are proficient in initiating Fellowship Manoeuvres. In Fellowships, a Burglar supports his or her allies by debuffing foes, while dealing respectable damage.
Lore: Burglars are masters of stealth and misdirection. They rely on sleight-of-hand and starting attacks that allow their companions to overwhelm adversaries.
This class is inspired by the famous Bilbo Baggins, who accompanied Thorin and Company on their quest to the Lonely Mountain.

Gameplay

Burglars cycle through their Critical Hit Chain to deal damage to their enemies. They use Stealth to sneak up on enemies, and with  Combat Stealth, temporarily go invisible in the midst of fight to deal bonus damage and gain additional abilities. Burglars have exceptional crowd control capabilities with skills such as  Startling Twist,  Riddle, and  Trip.

  • Blue-line (Bleed Damage): Burglars specializing in the Gambler trait tree use Gambles to damage and debuff their enemies. Most of their damage is caused by  Damaging Gamble, and other bleeds from skills such as  Gambler's Advantage. Their damage is highly variable, as it's dependant on the dice rolls for their Gambles.  All In is their major damage cooldown, but it comes at a great cost if no enemies are slain.
  • Red-line (Burst Damage): Burglars specializing in the Quiet Knife trait tree use  Combat Stealth to blink in and out of their enemies' field of vision, dealing bonus burst damage. The bulk of their damage is dealt by the combination of  Flashing Blades and  Double-edged Strike.
  • Yellow-line (Pure Support): Burglars specializing in the Mischief-maker trait tree use Tricks to debuff their enemies. Some of their more powerful crowd control and heal skills are made accessible by consuming these Tricks.  Trickster is their key skill, as it allows them to apply Tricks to multiple enemies at once.

This class is more difficult to play, and is not recommended for newer players. They can be fairly weak at lower levels, and their damage is heavily linked to playing through the Critical Hit Chain. However, they are an invaluable class at endgame, with yellow-line Burglar providing important debuffs for fellowships.

Critical Hit Chain

Several Burglar skills are by default unavailable, and become available for use when the Burglar lands a critical hit. Landing a critical hit grants  Critical Response, which allows the use of  Flashing Blades and  Gambler's Advantage. When one of these two skills are used, the Critical Hit Chain is opened, allowing for temporary use of several other skills.

Stealth

Burglars have the ability to enter stealth. They can enter stealth out-of-combat, or in-combat (combat stealth) by via a subset of skills. Red-line Burglars lean into stealth usage, with skills such as  Cunning Attack and  Surprise Strike gaining additional damage while in stealth. Stealth is also required to initiate a Fellowship Maneuver with  Trip. Combat stealth for Red-line Burglars is also obtained when using  Improved Feint Attack and  Coup de Grâce.

For more information, see Stealth and Combat Stealth.

Gambles

Blue-line Burglars have the ability to inflict Gambles on their enemies. Three types of Gambles exist:

When inflicting one of these debuffs, imaginary dice are rolled, and the potency varies based on the results. Through various traits and traceries, the dice rolls can be manipulated to grant more potent debuffs.

For more information, see Gambles.

Tricks

Yellow-line Burglars have the ability to inflict Tricks on their enemies. Enemies can only have 1 trick applied to them at a time. The most commonly used Tricks are as follows:

Trickster can be used to make the next Trick become AoE, stacking with other normal Tricks. Several skills, like  Startling Twist and  Mischievous Glee, require consuming Tricks to activate.
