Woe of the Willow
"In the heart of the Old Forest, a fell sword calls forth evil spirits from the Barrow-downs. Only by destroying the sword can you stop the wood-trolls' blight from spreading and end the forest's misery."

Woe of the Willow is a World Instance taking place in the Old Forest, in Bree-land.

Wood Trolls have invaded the forest, and are using a Morgul Blade to summon Barrow-spirits to spread their vile corruption. The instance is imagined to be set in the area between Tom Bombadil's House and Old Man Willow.

This instance is available as part of Quest Pack: The Wildwood. The pack is free to VIP accounts, or can be purchased for 1,195 LOTRO Point  in the Lotro Store.

Instance Overview

First Boss: Gulmúk Dampmould
Final Boss: Old Man Willow, Morgul Blade

Walk-through and Tactics

The first boss, Gulmúk Dampmould, has only 3 skills that she can rotate very often.

  • "Fall before us"

Skill: Striking Blows

  • "Witness our might"

Skill: Sweeping Limbs

  • "Our corruption runs deep"

Skill: Corrupted Pool

The key is to always watch out for the boss to use his 'Sweeping Limbs' skill and stay at least 12 meters away from them or you will get blown to pieces. Also, keep in mind that once her Morale falls down to around 25%, the entire room will be filled with poison puddles. 'Striking blows' is a single target version of 'Sweeping Limbs' so whomever the boss targets with it has to move away 12 meters from her.

It is probably a good idea to keep the area clean of poison puddles to prepare for the last phase. So, whenever the boss throws 'Corrupted Pool' on the team, dump the puddle at the sides of the area, where you are not going to run through them. Ultimately, you prepare for the last phase by keeping the center of the room completely free from poison puddles. Once the fight progresses towards the end, the center will be filled with puddles, so a good way to not kill yourselves is to avoid stacking more poison in it.

Moving from one poison puddle to another will toggle the poison debuff on a player, meaning if you are taking damage from the poison puddle, you can move to the next one and you will not take damage there.

There are 10 ghosts scattered through 6 locations in the branches of the forest. 3 ghosts before the first boss and 7 after. For every ghost you kill, the ghosts in the second boss fight take 10% more damage, up to 100%. This makes the second boss fight much easier.
