Have you always wondered what birds would call these lands theirs? From snowy mountain tops to the lowest wetlands, there are many birds ready to be discovered!
Description
"A relaxing way to explore and find the birds native to each region of Middle-earth."
Introduced with Update 41: On the Wing, birding is the second hobby available in LOTRO.
The Basics
Players can train in the art of birding from Hobby Masters:
How to Bird
Open the Character Journal and click on the Hobby button along the bottom. Here you will find information about birding, and the Birding icon which you can drag/assign to a quickslot.
- Go to any of the regions where Birding is currently scouted: Angmar, Bree-land, Cardolan, Dunland, Enedwaith, Ered Luin, Eregion, Evendim, Forochel, Lone-lands, Misty Mountains, North Downs, The Shire and Swanfleet.
- Equip a birding kit in main hand on character panel. Open Hobby panel from character panel drag the Birding icon on to toolbar.
- When you use the skill you'll first see/hear your character do a call, watch for floating white feathers to show up around your character's legs/feet as they raise the spyglass, tap your Birding icon/skill you'll see Green feathers show above character, then character will call again, white feathers show again hit the skill again, green feathers (See the Gallery for examples).
- Repeat this process about 2-4 times it seems to vary, character will cheer when you get one even if its not one you need anymore. For each time you successfully press the birding action during these windows you open yourself to finding a rarer bird from that region.
- If you start getting birds you've already discovered quite a bit its time to move to either a different area of the area or region or move on to a different region and come back as the birds grow wary of your presence.
- Each successful bird you have spotted will be recorded in the birding section of your Collections Panel (Shift+C).
