Lothlórien is a region found within the land of Rhovanion.

(Sindarin for Dream-flower) was a forest and Elven realm near the lower Misty Mountains. It was first settled by Nandorin Elves, but later populated by Ñoldor and Sindar under Celeborn of Doriath and Galadriel. It was located on the River Celebrant, southeast of Khazad-dûm, and was the only place where the golden Mallorn trees grew.

Galadriel's magic, later revealed as the power of her ring Nenya, enriched the land and made it a magic forest into which evil could not enter without difficulty. The only way that Lothlórien could have been conquered by the armies of Mordor is if Sauron had come there himself. [1]

Lothlórien, translated as "Lórien of the Blossom" and usually called just Lórien, are the fabled golden woods whose Elves dwell high in the mallorn-trees and are ruled by Celeborn, wisest of the Eldar of Middle-earth, and the Lady Galadriel. The Golden Wood, is a blaze of light and colour at the edge of the Black Pit of Moria. Even in this time of shadow and fear, Celeborn, Galadriel, and their Silvan people keep it safe.

When Celeborn and Galadriel passed into Middle-earth, they settled at last beyond the Misty Mountains among the silvan folk of Laurelindórenan, the Land of the Valley of Singing Gold. Its name sprang from the colours of the mallorn trees which grow there, whose leaves turn golden in the autumn. Lord Celeborn is acknowledged throughout Middle-earth as the wisest of the Wise, while Galadriel his wife is known to have the gift of foresight, though much of the truth lies in the Ring of Power she secretly wields: Nenya, the Ring of Adamant. Together they rule the Golden Wood, protecting it through the power of Nenya.
