The Forsaken Inn Exterior

This busy tavern is found by the Great East Road, almost at the border of the south-eastern Bree-land and the western Lone-lands. In the past it has been called the "Last Inn" and on their journey towards the Lonely Mountain, Thorin and Company found this place deserted. However, seven decades later Anlaf the Forlorn has turned it into a well visited inn, despite its ramshackle appearance.

The Forsaken Inn affords a mix of vendors, quest givers, and other services, which makes it a well-visited place where travellers rest their horses and prepare for their next quests, or where fellowships join up for new adventures. The Inn is not without its troubles, however, as goblins pour out from the surrounding hills and orc encampments have begun sprouting out worrisomely close to the north.

No guests but the deaf get much sleep these days, because of noises from the basement, perhaps hinting at a guest from beyond the grave?

Lore

Strider: "I don't know if the Road has ever been measured in miles beyond the Forsaken Inn, a day's journey east of Bree." — The Fellowship of the Ring, by Tolkien
"One day's journey east of Bree on the Great East Road, travellers will find the Forsaken Inn, and it is likely to be the last outpost of civilized life they will encounter for some time to come. The Inn itself is in disrepair, with a variety of cobbled-together wall fragments and a severely neglected roof – however, any roofed structure (even one with only half of its roof still intact), is a welcome sight in these lawless lands.
"The region around the Inn, now known as the Lone-lands, is an expansive grassy wilderness between Bree and the Trollshaws. Once a pivotal kingdom of mighty Arnor long ago, in these darkening days this wilderness is not to be traveled lightly, despite its noticeably sparse population. The surrounding hills are home to brigands and shadowy characters of many sorts, understanding the value of the artefacts that can be unearthed." — Lorebook
