Roving Threats (RTs) are a type of landscape content (i.e. not a dungeon or instance) designed for players in Small Fellowships, Fellowships, and Raids. All Roving Threats are level 100 except for those in the Wastes which are level 105. They were introduced with Update 15. They are similar in concept to Warbands, but differ in that Roving Threats can appear in areas where mounted combat is not permitted (specifically Eriador and Rhovanion).
All Roving Threat quests are repeatable daily and cannot be picked up again until the next day if cancelled.
On legendary servers, even though RT quests auto-bestow at level 95, they cannot be progressed or completed unless the server's level cap is at least 100, at which point the associated NPCs and enemies will appear.
Spawning cycles
Roving Threats appear randomly in specific locations and will only change their location once a day, at 3:00 a.m. server time. Each area has a number of established spawn locations (see next section for details). At the start of each day each Roving Threat is assigned a particular spawn spot for the day around which it patrols. After defeat it respawns in that same spot after 5 minutes.
Abilities
Each Roving Threat has a set of unique abilities and thereby provide a greater challenge than Warbands typically. For example, the spider Scythe-jaw will apply a poison that instantly defeats players upon expiration unless it is removed. Roving Threats are labelled as Rare Arch-nemeses and therefore it is recommended to fight them with a group (although characters near to level cap may be able to solo some or all of them).
Hint: A Lore-master using a bear companion can effectively tank some Roving Threats since many of their special abilities are not used against pets.
