The Host of the West is a reputation faction that covers the regions included in the March of the King and Battle of the Black Gate releases. The Regions where the faction is active are; Anórien (After Battle), Ithilien and the Wastes. The faction loot is bartered with large numbers of Herbs. It has quartermasters in Anórien (After Battle), a further two types of herbalist barters in Ithilien, and an additional three different sub-factions for The Wastes.

The Rohirrim and Gondorian soldiers march with Aragorn from Aragorn's Pavilion in the Pelennor Fields (After-battle), through Osgiliath (After Battle) turning at the Cross-roads (After-battle) to head north through North Ithilien to encamp at the edge of Dagorlad before marching on Morannon, the Black Gate, at the edge of Mordor.

The Rangers of Ithilien have moved from South Ithilien to the Camp of the Host in North Ithilien to prepare the way for them.

Resource Instances

There are two so-called "Resource Instances." These are different from previous "Crafting Instances."

In these instances you may encounter resource nodes and mob drops:

  • Skoironk provides Prospector Nodes
  • Towers of the teeth (Charchost) provides Scholar nodes
  • There are also random ground spawn of various Flora in both
  • Mobs may drop random Resources and Single-use Recipes in both
  • These instances require quests to enter. Those quests provide selectable resources.

Gaining Reputation for Master Sub-Factions

The Weapons, Armour and Provision sub faction reputation points are only gained thru the use of reputation items by "right-clicking" them. A few of these items can be acquired thru deeds and quests but to gain sufficient points you need to craft many more. These items are also used to barter.

Crafting Reputation Items

  • Reputation items can be crafted by all the various crafting skills.
  • Basic crafting recipes are automatically given to all Anórien level (T10) crafters under “Host of the West."
  • Advanced crafting recipes can be bartered for Quartermaster (Host of the West)
  • Rare single-use crafting recipes are found in resource nodes and creature drops.

The Crafting Procedure

  1. Gather all the things:
  2. Visit Herbalist (Host of the West) -- (Section: The Wastes - Rewards)
    • Exchange Phial of Extract for Ranger Journals related to your crafting skill
  3. Craft skill specific crafted item
    • Recipes have an 18 hour or 6 days cooldown. Mob dropped recipes are single use.
  4. Visit Master barters and exchange the crafted items for rep items or loot

The Completist

To max out all three Master barters you will need a bit of patience:

  • Crafting can provide 17,000 points a week
  • Quests can provide 25,900 points a week
  • Each Master has a max reputation level of Kindred for a total of 85,000 points
  • At this rate it takes about 2 weeks to reach Kindred status for each Master

  • Questing details:
    • There are 13 solo and fellowship quests
      • 6 solo quest rewards rep items worth 100 points
      • 6 fellowship quests rewards rep items worth 500 points
      • the Locked Strongbox (Optional) rewards rep items worth 100 points
    • If you perform all 13 quests once a day, you will be rewarded with 3,700 points of reputation items
  • In a week you would be rewarded:
    • 25,900 Total rep points per week

  • Crafting details: each profession has access to 6 recipes
    • Gathering resources can take a fair amount of time but the recipe cool down is where patience is needed
    • Basic crafting recipes that doesn't require a Rangers' Journal which yields 5 rep items worth 100 points each, every day (18 hours)
    • Advanced crafting recipes that requires a Rangers' Journal which yields 35 rep items worth 100 points each, every week (6 days, 18 hours)
    • Bartered advanced recipe that requires a Rangers' Journal which yields 6 rep items worth 500 points every 3 days (2 days, 18 hours)
    • Bartered advanced recipe that requires a Rangers' Journal which yields 7 rep items worth 500 points every week (6 days 18 hours)
    • Dropped Rare recipe that requires a Rangers' Journal which yields 7 rep items worth 500 points (to timer)
  • Each week you will need materials: 28+ basic materials, 56 rare materials and 6 Rangers Journal
  • In a week you would be able to produce:
    • assuming you collected all the right resources and one rare, dropped recipe, a week
    • 17,000 Total rep points a week if you were able to craft all 70 rep items worth 100 points and 20 rep items worth 500 points
  • Each Master has a max reputation level of Kindred for a total of 85,000 points, at this rate, just with crafting, it takes 5 weeks to reach Kindred status for each Master
