Hathollant

The Hathollant (Axe Glade in Sindarin) is a river in Gondor. It flows south from the White Mountains, forming the border between Pinnath Gelin and Anfalas to the east, and the Andrast to the west. It also effectively forms the modern western border of Gondor, since the Andrast has grown depopulated and wild, and is no longer formally considered part of the kingdom. The Hathollant is crossed by the mighty bridge Arthiant leading into the Andrast.
Its name might mean "Axe Glade" in Sindarin, from hathol ("axe") + lant ("glade").

The Hathollant pours down from the White Mountains in a meltwater fall and then passes through a short narrow stretch.
-
The Hathollant very soon widens into a large lake.

The Hathollant lake forms the border between the Pinnath Gelin in the east and the lost land of Andrast in the west.
-
The Hathollant lake has two side arms, or "bays" that stick into the land on each side.
-
The only crossing of the Hathollant is the Arthiant bridge.

The last stretch of the river is past the bridge, heaving out to the coast.
