Emyn Arnen

Emyn Arnen (Sindarin for By-water Hills) are four steep hills in South Ithilien, denoting the border with Harondor to the south, with Bâr Húrin cresting the northernmost hill. The very sharp incline on the hills' southern faces create a natural barrier blocking passage from the south, forcing crossings to happen in the pass to the east or across the river Anduin to the west. Alternatively, the use of tall ladders and platforms have also been used by encroaching Haradrim to scale the Emyn Arnen and gain access to their heights.
