Tip for Item: Recipe

Take a look in my 2 changes in Item:Exquisite Outrider's Helm Recipe. There are some nice templates for the multioutput and Item Information for the Guild Recipes. Barny (talk) 17:20, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Loot Items Scaling

I moved the page you created from "Item: Loot Items Scaling" to Loot Items Scaling - i.e. moved it from the item namespace to the main namespace.
I also have added some linking info to the Boilerplate:Items section and to your page.
Plaese read them over and modify as needed :)

Crafting reviews

Hi, I invite you to update the section Lotro-Wiki.com:Crafting#Latest reviews as you finish profession/tier, and maybe a '...' on the one in progress, I could join and help finish all these! :) -- Goingbald (talk) 23:04, 20 August 2016 (UTC)

Items don't need sections removed

The sections you're removing from items don't need to be removed. If they don't have a value, they'll be invisible. If developers add a value in later, then they're there for ease of access. And since this is a wiki, there's not much value in deleting "useless" information like that -- it's saved in the history page for all time, so doesn't really make the wiki smaller. If you want to, more power to you -- I'm just saying you don't have to if you don't want to. :) Banaticus (talk) 18:11, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

I'm removing it to make it compact and visible within the screen, rather than to reduce size of a page... It takes few seconds anyway...
Steppenwolf (talk) 20:04, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Steppenwolf
This is an old debate - whose arguments haven't changed over the years. New editors tend to be "upset" by the apparently un-necessary clutter they find in existent pages.
It is also true that many templates have, like Topsy, "just growed." There are many templates which cater to a large number of "unique" situations, and hence appear to have many unnecessary (i.e. unused) parameters.

Metalsmith Recipe Index

Hi, the icons aren't showing up properly on this page because it is calling the Reward template too many times. If you hit preview on this, you should get the message "Warning: This page contains too many expensive parser function calls. It should have less than 500 calls, there are now 587 calls." You'll notice there are also 87 entries where the icon doesn't show up properly. As to how to fix it, I think the options are

  1. increase the limit (probably not desired, its there for a reason)
  2. reduce the page size (possible, but sort of defeats the point of having an index)
  3. replace enough instances with plain links eg. Teräs-sydän
  4. just accept that some icons won't show up properly

Thanks, problem solved
Steppenwolf (talk) 21:48, 24 August 2016 (UTC)Steppenwolf
My intention with indexes few months back was to only remove the icons in the 1st column by using the Reward template, because some were not accurate anymore, leaving the components as is. When you started to change the components to use Reward too, I agreed it looked great but didn't know we'd encounter the problem of having too many calls. Now starting to having a mix of previous links, some {{:Item:xxx|mode=imlink_plain}}, some {{:Item:xxx|mode=icon}} to avoid too many calls, that becomes strange to maintain. I'd personally would stick to what was before, your opinion? There is still more to do to get rid of icons! :) -- Goingbald (talk) 00:42, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
Keep doing Reward template for crafting items, I'll deal with components, step by step. Will do Reward template up to 500 and will do Icons with the rest on a large page... Also try to update Single use recipe and item tooltips, as many as you can, 'cause I don't have them all, especially barter ones... I encountered problem with legendary items, 'cause a template is used for them on crafting index page and they don't fit within 40%-10%-40%-10%. Someone should rearrange that template, I'm a wrong person to do it lol...
Steppenwolf (talk) 01:36, 15 September 2016 (UTC)Steppenwolf
As a temporary solution, for legendary items, you could do like the section Jeweller Supreme Recipe Index#Legendary Champion Runes (Level 60). If over 500, I wouldn't use icons only, {{:Item:xxx|mode=imlink_plain}} would be better to keep seeing the text of the components. -- Goingbald (talk) 02:27, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
{{:Item:xxx|mode=imlink_plain}} counts in those 500... Didn't try, but I bet {{:Item:xxx|mode=icon}} counts too... No more than 500 of any "shortcut templates" on a page, reward or imlink or combined...
Steppenwolf (talk) 19:01, 15 September 2016 (UTC)Steppenwolf
Using pretty much any template to display the icon will count towards the limit. It is the ifexist in {{Icon}} that causes it and all of these templates use {{Icon}}. If you want to display more than 500 then you either have to change {{Icon}} or use direct links to the images which breaks the auto-updating. Recipe Indexes

I changed the Components of the Legendary Item Template to the Reward Template for every Recipe Index. Maybe its helpfull for your work in progress ;-). If you find a mistake, please tell me and I will change it. Barny (talk) 18:14, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

Ok, thanx... Can you change Craft Item row to the Reward Template as well?
Steppenwolf (talk) 21:59, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Steppenwolf
It's not so easy. The Item page behind is for all Levels (example Item:Burglar's Dagger of the Third Age), but the Icon change for every Level. I think, I can solve this with the Template:Barter.
Another Problem I produced with the change is, that some Recipe Indexes now have more than 500 calls (example Weaponsmith Supreme Recipe Index)!
One Option is to splitt this pages, like we made for the barter in the Skirmish camp (example Skirmish-Light Armour). I don't like this Idea, but it would be easy to do.
The other Option is to merge some Recipes in the Index. Example: In Weaponsmith Supreme Recipe Index I would merge the 3 Beorning Weapons (Level 60) Third age Recipes as in Guardian/Warden Shield-spikes above (but with the 3 Recipes. Than we need the Components only ones. Therefore I have to create a new Template (with variable numbers of Recipes).
I undo my work from yesterday (so you cannot see the problem in Weaponsmith Supreme Recipe Index, see Decoration Items, there is the same problem)
Barny (talk) 17:24, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
My initial intent, few months back, was only to remove icons for the crafted items so it would require a single column to display it and avoid to maintain indexes if the icon is changed. To have now the Reward used for components too looks maybe nicer but generates too many calls. I'd propose to keep the components with only links, less work to do for further updates on indexes not done yet? :) -- Goingbald (talk) 17:32, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
For Legendary Items the icon schoultn't be a problem, because every Index, Recipe, use my Template Template:Legendary Icon ;-). But I now, what you mean. Barny (talk) 17:43, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Renaming of low level items to (Level 2)

I see you have been doing a lot of formatting for items and vendors. I have virtually completed the creation of all (Level 1) items from the intro, and plan to rename most of the level 2 armour available at the Vendors in Archet and Edhelion Watch that I originally set up without level numbers to include (Level 2) in the name, so that the items with the same name be in sequence, eg Leather Shirt (Level 1), Leather Shirt (Level 2), Leather Shirt (Level 5), etc. In this case I will rename the 'Leather Shirt' to 'Leather Shirt (Level 2). I will try to update all the cross links you have created. Cheers. Noddi (talk) 11:06, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Vendor table format

Hi. I just noticed your change to the vendor table format you did last night to Maynard Thistle, changing the format from width = 33% to width = 500px. I have created over thirty of the 33% tables over the last few months, using your (I think) original format, and now you have changed two to the 500px format... why? Is there an issue with the 33% format? Also noticed you have changed the copper amounts to always have 2 digits, including 00 when the amount is zero. I had been entering zero amounts back in December and you had been deleting them... I get this change but not the leading zeros. If you are going to use a leading zero, why not for the silver column as well? Personally I don't like the leading zero format - it is to much like a computer printout! I just want to coordinate this I will be continuing to create new vendor tables. Cheers. Noddi (talk) 21:42, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Started using zeros for coppers to align "worth" column right, looks better... About "width" format, I was using 32" monitor, now it's not working and needs to be fixed... I'm forced to use old 4x3 19" monitor now, and I realized one thing I couldn't see earlier... Tables with "%" are changing their shape with different aspect ratio and resolution, so columns are too narrow now... Tables with "px" are exactly the same and don't change with aspect ratio, resolution change or zoom in/out... Lets say minimal resolution width that people use now is 1024... Every table width should be 800px or less, if posible... For vendors I changed it to 500px to fit the screen with their pic, everything bigger would push the table under the pic, on low resolutions...
Steppenwolf (talk) 22:30, 2 February 2017 (UTC)Steppenwolf
Thanks for the update. I guessed the format issue was related to screen resolution, like you I have a big screen, so don't see issues on smaller screens. I will use the new format for new tables and try to update the old ones as I find them. I am still iffy about the leading zeros in the coppers column, does line up fine but... does not feel right... Keep up the good work with images, I will be working through uploading all item images for the intro over the next month. On images, have you considered some way the capture the colour of the item as originally obtained - seeing how your templates use generic, random(?) colours? Noddi (talk) 00:45, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
I know what you mean about zeros, but it still looks awful when aligning "worth" column without them... I try to use colours for the items to match permanent colour that can not change or the best looking colours for that item... Some items look good with all colours and some with few colours only... Basically, I upload 2 pics to, primary, show what part of the item changes colour when dyed, colours pick is secondary... Those pics taken outside are what is their original colour... Sometimes I upload temporary pics, if I have no time to do it properly, cause the most of the appearances are common and I'll get those again, sooner or later...

Redirects

How does one crate a redirect.

I need to know how to do it for the Store Item Snowman Kite which is actually called Frosty Kite when in game.

Keep the Store Item name, because no one knows it as Frosty Kite, until it's bought... To create redirection type #REDIRECT Snowman Kite...
