Sorry for the late welcome. Thanks for bringing those things up-to-date. Amphoras (talk) 08:18, 26 June 2011 (EDT)

Glinghant

I noticed your comment at Glinghant: "Begin with the Darkest of Waters' secondary quest,... " (slightly shortened by me today). However, please elaborate what that "secondary quest" is. I cannot see (and am not yet strong enough to do it) a "secondary" something in the quest, just one objective that is to kill darkwaters. Have I misunderstood something?

Best regards, Zimoon 13:31, 8 April 2012 (EDT)

Wow, that's a blast from the past, anyway, your misunderstanding was caused by an edit making it possessive, Darkest of Waters is the quest, and a quest is not an objective. I removed the errant apostrophe. RJFerret (talk) 20:31, 18 April 2012 (EDT)

Category:Tordag's Camp Quests - What do these comments mean?

The comments you have added to these quests, "optional re: skill trait point," make no sense in this context.
This page is NOT a listing of quests one must complete in order to gain a Trait Point.
I realize that the forum page you refer to https://forums-old.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?533058-Quests-of-Broadacres calls the quest "Optional" but the intent of that page is quite different from the Wiki page.
  • I have rolled back your edit, cleaned up the structure and added Landscape quest tags.

What wording would you prefer? That is the logical place for the info, since that's where readers seeking the info would be viewing. Searchers have no other way to know were the info provided elsewhere, and currently the wiki is missing the info entirely since your edit!

You are missing the point -- The Wiki's Category pages which list quests for a particular area, list all of the quests for that area.
An attempt is made to present them in the sequence in which they become available. But that is not always possible.
And, in fact, ALL quests are optional. As far as the Trait point is concerned, you can do those "optional" quests you list and skip others back in Stoke (like the ones given by the 3 advisors at the table.) Which quests are optional and which are not is totally dependent upon the sequence in which you do them.
Phasing and sequencing is a different issue.
The Broadacres quest string was broken for quite some time. BOTH Tordag's camp instance (Forth the Toringas) and the main Stoke quests - the Council of Stoke - could not be completed for a number of reasons which differed over time. They were really buggy, and badly level-scaled -- witness the existence of a Raid quest in the middle of normal questing. For quite some time after release, the Boradacres string could NOT be completed with less than 2-3 players, despite the quests being listed as "solo." The problem with the quests that writer had listed as optional was the fact that nobody could find Blackthorn! They always got hung up on the Raid quest, and never saw the next one in line -- if that one was always there, I don't recall.

None of what you just said is relevant to the issue of your removing provided information/data: IE, essentially wiki vandalism. Sequence wasn't touched, levels weren't touched, bugs weren't mentioned; I added missing information, you removed it claiming it made "no sense", a subjective qualification. The proper solution is to correct the "sense", not lose the data. This is the list users refer to when trying to get their class trait point, wanting to know what is relevant and what may be skipped. There is no other source for the information preventing waste of time. Removing it makes the page useless to users, as it's nothing more than a list of quests then, utterly meaningless as this region of the game provides them sequentially.
PS: You made a point "ALL quests are optional", which is untrue in this area, as you can't get further quests or your class trait point if you miss certain ones, hence needing to know which are critical and not.
PPS: To put it another way, adding all the lists of quests to the Class Trait Skill Points page would be needlessly cumbersome, clutter that page, be redundant to the existing lists, not display on various quest pages, create maintenance problems due to multiple pages to update without knowing about them, and be missed by some of folks looking for the info, defeating the entire purpose of a wiki.

The information added was wrong. The quests you indicated as OPTIONAL are in fact no more or less optional than any 4 other quests in that group.
One player was unable to figure out how to do those quests and did others instead - and so that player called them optional. In fact other players have done those 4 quests and NOT DONE 4 other quests and acquired their Class Trait Point. The simple fact that 4 quests are claimed to be optional, means that there are more quests in the area than are necessary to acquire the Point. Just as an example, my Rune-keeper completed those 4 "optional" quests, but never completed the Assault on Bardh-dorám or Celebration of Victory, yet still completed the deed and acquired the Trait Point.
As for Western Rohan providing the quests sequentially - no it does not. If you go off following the various riders in front of the various cities, you will be engaging quests in a random sequence. Does sequence matter -- not completely, but it does in some aspects. Namely that you must do certain EPIC quests first to open up certain quest lines and certain areas are lower difficulty levels than others.
Turbine is constantly changing how they provide quest-gating or quest-sequencing. Moria is a good case in point. Quest paths have been radically altered on two occasions to make it "easier" for players to find "the next quest." But it is still possible to do quests at different quest-hubs in different sequences than Turbine expects. The worst place for Quest-gating was The Great River (where you MUST do quests in a specific sequence to progress), followed by the sequence to get your War-Steed - the Langhold Quest arc. Areas like Hytbold, fortunately, are few and far-between. (Dol Amroth is Turbine's second use of the Hytbold technique.) Complaints have abounded about doing quests to acquire faction reputation in Eastern (and Western) Gondor, so Turbine has added different mechanics to acquire Rep in those ares since they were released.
"preventing waste of time." - is also a subjective statement. Most players of LOTRO are not involved in the PvMP/Raider Rush to Level-cap race. These PvMP/Raiders tend to be very vocal on the forums, but it has been stated by a former employee recently on the rogues forum, that Sapience's 10% was a very generous number -- the highest he ever saw for PvMP/Raiding was 7%. A number which in fact, Turbine apparently DID (and probably still does) track internally.

Sorry for the delayed response, this really isn't a priority and you seem to me more interested in arguing than providing info. Do get back on track, you detailed more info in your reply here, how about presenting that on the wiki in a format that would delight you and make you personally happy so everyone has access to the info?
And another delayed point, as I just went through the area with the quests in question, you were completely wrong about optional aspects. You can not skip others as you suggested and do these instead, they are raid quests, hence not required for the class trait point.
