Tips for New Editors

What is this language we use here? The code we use is called wiki markup. It is not HTML but under the hood the wiki-engine creates HTML from the markup; see Wiki Markup for more information. Lotro-Wiki uses MediaWiki which recognizes wiki-markup, many HTML tags, and CSS. Staying Current In the left-hand column, the link "Recent discussions" will list any recent change to a talk page. Using that link is an easy way to "stay current". An even better way is to chat with other editors and admins. Red links in Preview Mode If a link turns out red it indicates an error, usually a typo or "page not found". Something that should be fixed before saving them page. However, when editing in newly added areas we accept red links for pages expected to new added soon; all red links can be found using a link under "Special Pages" in the left-hand column. Removing "Stub" Tags Some pages have an Article Management Tag, meaning the page needs additional work. When adding the missing information, please remove the tag, which removes the page from e.g. Category:Stubs/Mob or whatever category the page was tagged for. Creature vs. Mob "Mob" is an enemy inside an instance, while "creature" is any other enemy. Kill vs. Defeat At Lotro-Wiki we never say "kill" but always say "defeat". How to Delete a Page? Only Administrators have the ability to delete pages. Instead you can tag a page for deletion by adding {{Delete Page|<reason>}} at the top of the page. However, we prefer to keep old pages around for reference so we use the {{Obsolete}} tag. Similarly, certain information on a page could be useful for future reference. Either hide that info under a collapsed table titled e.g. "obsolete info", or move that info to a section at the bottom of the page, similarly titled, or to a new page with a name indicating the info is old. Chat with other editors for advice. How to Move (Rename) a Page? Only Administrators can move a page, use the {{Move}} tag, and give a reason why.

Not quite a spelling error . . .

I noted that on a couple of the new T10 Jewellery items you recently created a line like:

Item:Anórien Stickpin Recipe - Item information --

"This recipe might be revealed when opening 10b, that can be dropped by humanoids of levels 10b . . ."

• I have no idea what "10b" might mean in the first reference, and assume you mean 100 in the second.

both instances of the use of 10b were an upgrade from 9b on an Emerald equivalent - I assumed for want of a better idea that it might refer to the Tier, with the b being a Basic auto-bestowed reference. I will gladly be corrected if this is not true.

An alternative idea may be that 10b refers to a region, in this case maybe 10a is Minas Tirith, and 10b is Talath Anor?

Tracked it backwards and itseemsto refer to the name of the tier eg Westemnet or Anórien, and is picked up by one of the templates. Template will probably need adjusting for Tier 10. Agathriel (talk) 23:27, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Naming redirection with Special Characters

• Given that Anórien has a special character, and that I am only just a Ninja - (Thank you, thank you) - the search box is not picking up the 'flat' spelling Anorien. Can you explain how to set the redirect please? Agathriel (talk) 21:46, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

When creating a redirect page, all you need to put in is the following:

Optional Critical Chance Template

I have noticed that all the Critical Chance figures default to an initial value of 5%, which cannot be changed. Can the template be altered to provide a way to override this, in the same way as the Trophy value does?

For example, the Anórien Bracelet Recipe appears to have an initial Critical Chance value of 25% rather than 5%.

Hi, your question should have been on the Template talk:Crafting page! ;) The default 5% shows when no tools are equipped, or only a basic one with no bonus, so I'm guessing you had some 'Tools of the Supreme ...' or the Universal Toolkit equipped? -- Goingbald (talk) 03:56, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi Agathriel. Thanks for helping in the Crafting Area!!! It's very helpfull. I also removed some Stub/Construction from you. Some additional Tip: Allways fill in the quality (rare, incomparable, ...) into the Item Pages, then the Item will get the correct color in the other pages (example Recipe Pages). While fixing typos I found one that could go either way -- The page name is Recipe, but it looks intended to be simply an item page.
