This is the template documentation for {{Player Character}}. It is transcluded from Template:Player Character/doc and may be directly edited there.

Template Usage

This template must be included at the very top of all character information pages. The format is as follows:

  • Create Player Character should be used to create a Player Character article (page), then fill in the appropriate parameters
Your character profile will automatically created as: "User:<YourAccountname>/<YourCharacterName>"
  • The headings under "Supplemental Formatting" represent suggested information others might be interested in concerning your character.
  • To get your character image on your page:
  • Leave the code for image as is.
  • Once your character's page is created, click on the red image link to upload your image.
  1. You will be taken to the "Upload File" page.
  2. Click on Source filename: "Choose File"; then select your picture on your computer
    Lotro-Wiki.com has no image editing capabilities. See: Help: Images for information about Creating Images and Icons for upload.
  3. The image will upload to (Destination filename): File: User-<YourAccountname>-<YourCharacterName>.jpg
  4. Click "Upload File"

Meaning Behind the Parameters

Note: Regarding "blank or 'Yes'" for many parameters -- blank will not enable the feature of that parameter, but "Yes" or any other text will enable it, as will a single character, digit, or anything other than a space. Hence, blank means "off" (which is default), while any text means "on".

name
(Required) - The name of your character
kinship
(Optional) - The Kinship your character belongs to
world
(Required) - The World your character can be found on - see list below.
vocation
(Optional) - Your character's Vocation - see list below
professions
(Optional) - Your character's Professions - see list below
class
(Required) - Your character's Class - see list below
race
(Required) - Your character's Race - see list below

Image control

image

The "image" line is a preformatted to match your page name. Once you paste the template, fill in the information and save the page, a red link will appear. You can click on that and upload your image. (You might have to change the .jpg to .png, however .jpg is the recommended format.)

About Accuracy and spelling.

The following template variables are used to categorize pages and as a result they MUST be spelled correctly.
  • Name: If you cannot spell your own name from memory, go find a reference. e.g. Look on your login screen to Lotro.
  • Kinship: The name of your characters Kinship must be spelled exactly the same way as it is above players heads in game.
  • World: What server do you play on? Please chose from one of the following servers.

Closed Worlds

While the following worlds are now closed you can still make a page for a past character if you wish.
  • Vocation: What vocation does this character have?
  • Professions: What professions has this character learned?
  • Class: The specified class must be one of the following, and must be spelled exactly the same as it is below. (including capital letters)
  • Race: The specified race must be one of the following, and must be spelled exactly the same as it is below. (including capital letters)

Frequently Asked Questions about this template.

Q. What if I have nothing to enter for a certain variable?
A. If you have no Kinship then leave that field empty. Any other variable you have no value for should be set to n/a (which stands for not available)
Q. What If I need to change a variable at a later date?
A. Just log in and edit the page. Any variables you change will be updated on the page once you click the "Save Page" button.
Q. Is it okay to change the name variable when editing a page?
A. Changing your characters name is fine, just so long as it is consistent in all variables throughout the wiki. (e.g. Stories with the characters name as the author variable)
