Description
Tol Ascarnen (sindarin for "Isle of Red Dust") is one of the five contested landmarks in the Ettenmoors. Once a great fortress of Rhudaur built at the northernmost crossing of the Hoarwell river, Tol Ascarnen fell into ruin after the end of the witch-realm of Angmar. Now, the recent conflict in the Ettenmoors sees the island permanently contested between the Coldfells Army and the Army of Angmar because it has great strategic value serving as a lookout post across the Hoardale.
Location
Central to the Ettenmoors and positioned on an island in the middle of the Hoarwell River, Tol Ascarnen [16.8S, 17.0W] is a defensible stronghold. Bridges lead to the island from the east and from the west, and forces may be able to find purchase through the river. To the north, a magnificent waterfall towers high above the fortress at the foothills of the Misty Mountains and Arador's End.
The keep has three entrances, one to the west, one to the south and another to the east. There are two stairs leading up to the final room where the Tyrant/Captain-General is located. On the ground floor, there is a hall to the north of the eastern gate. This room houses the quest NPCs. If the oil and iron gathering quests have been turned in ten times, an iron cauldron will be installed above the southern entrance which does damage to all foes entering the keep here. On the floor above the quest hall there is a room containing a backdoor exit leading to the northwestern corner of the fortress. This backdoor can be used by anyone to exit Tol Ascarnen but only the side currently holding the keep can use the backdoor in the opposite direction.
The two bridges providing the main approaches to Tol Ascarnen are:
- * South Tol Ascarnen Bridge (STAB) -- The bridge across the Hoarwell from the south leading towards the Coldfells and Tirith Rhaw
- * West Tol Ascarnen Bridge (WTAB) -- The bridge across the Hoarwell from the west leading towards the Steps of Gram and Lugazag
Effect
Tol Ascarnen grants the effect Tol Ascarnen to the side in control of the keep. This effect grants +20% Infamy/Glory and Commendation gain. Control of the Keep changes immediately on defeat of the Tyrant/Captain-General and the symbol on the in-game map will change accordingly.
NPCs and Quests
Tol Ascarnen will house NPCs and quests associated with the side currently holding the fortress. All quest givers can be defeated by the opposing side, thus making their respective quests unavailable until they respawn.

Control Buff: | Tharondir/Ettenmoors (Effect) |
Description
Tírith Rhaw (sindarin for "Wild-watch") is one of the five contested landmarks in the Ettenmoors. This ancient tower built by the Men of Rhudaur affords the Free Peoples a long view of the forest, and allows them to see down to the waterway. The westernmost keep located in the Coldfells and close to Glân Vraig and Ost Ringdyr, Tírith Rhaw is aligned with the Coldfells Army, but may at times fall into the hands of the Army of Angmar.
Location
Atop a rise to the west of Ost Ringdyr, but not yet to the eastern bank of the Hoarwell, Tírith Rhaw’s silhouette is rising above the treeline, securing the slopes of the Coldfells. The tower has two entrances, one being the main gate facing west, while the other is a backdoor at the south-eastern corner. This backdoor can be used by anyone to exit Tírith Rhaw but only the side currently holding the keep can use the backdoor in the opposite direction.
Entering through the main gate, attackers will have to fight their way through a large hall and up the spiral stairs to the second floor. Directly above the gate, the keep's current commander makes his stand. Another set of stairs leads up to the final room, where the quest NPCs and the backdoor are located. If the oil and iron gathering quests have been turned in ten times, an iron cauldron will be installed above the western entrance which does damage to all foes entering the keep here.
Outside the keep, there are a number of rock formations. The most senior of these is a collection of rocks (3 acting as steps to the biggest one) on the road from the keep to Glan Vraig. The largest of these rocks is known as Nidor's Rock. On this rock is a spider (built as part of the landscape, you cannot target it) with two hatchlings beside. This is a memorial, added with the Helm's Deep Expansion, to a well-loved and greatly experience Spider Weaver from Brandywine called Nidor, who tragically passed away from cancer.
Effect
Tirith Rhaw grants the effect Tírith Rhaw to the side in control of the tower.. This effect grants +20% Infamy/Glory and Commendation gain.
NPCs and Quests
Tírith Rhaw will house NPCs and quests associated with the side currently holding the fortress. All quest givers can be defeated by the opposing side, thus making their respective quests unavailable until they respawn.

Description
Lugazag (Black Speech for "Lookout-post") is one of the five contested landmarks in the Ettenmoors. A grim shadow is cast by this ruined tower at the foot of the Steps of Gram. From within the walls of this tower, Angmar’s forces send raiding forces into the Ettenmoors in search of food and sport. Because of the proximity of Gramsfoot and Dâr-gazag, Lugazag is usually associated with the Army of Angmar, but may at times fall into the hands of the Free Peoples.
Location
Located on a hill on the eastern edge of the Steps of Gram, Lugazag offers an excellent view into the Hoardale and the lands to the east. The tower has two entrances, one being the main gate facing east, while the other is a backdoor at the north-western corner. This backdoor can be used by anyone to exit Lugazag but only the side currently holding the keep can use the backdoor in the opposite direction.

Control Buff: | Tharondir/Ettenmoors (Effect) |
Description
The Grimwood Lumber Camp is one of the five contested landmarks in the Ettenmoors. Once a harvesting location for the Hobbits of Hoarhallow, the Grimwood Lumber Camp now offers equipment for refining and preparing the wood needed to build palisades throughout the Ettenmoors. The trees on a small grove in the wild forest of Hithlad have been cut to make room for the lumber-yard. Both the Coldfells Army as well as the Army of Angmar seek to take permanend control of the Grimwood and its valuable resources.
Location
A grove west of Hoarhallow, next to a wooded cliff in the central part of Hithlad. The Lumber-camp has two entrances, one to the north and one to the west. A strong wooden palisade fortifies the locale. The commander of the camp is standing under a parapet in the south-eastern corner. Most of the wood-chopping is done directly to the west of the camp where lumberjacks work hard to produce valuable wood resources for the side currently holding the lumber-yard.
Effect
Holding the Lumber-yard grants the effect Grimwood Lumber Camp to the side in control of Grimwood. This effect grants +20% Infamy/Glory and Commendation gain.

Description
The Isendeep Mine is one of the five contested landmarks in the Ettenmoors. Located in the shadows of the Mountains of Angmar, the Isendeep was first mined when the Dwarves at the Delving of Frór discovered the rich ore veins in the rocks of Arador's End. Mining activities have greatly decreased since that time, and the mine is mostly stone, although some deposits of ore yet remain. With the conflict between the Coldfells Army and the Army of Angmar escalating in the areas to the south, the Isendeep has now become an underground battlefield where dwarves and goblins strive to secure the last remaining ore resources.
Location
The mines lie in a spur of the Misty Mountains in the furthest north-east of Ettenmoors. There are three entrances; one to the west leading to the goblin-village of Grothum, one to the south into Arador's End and one to the west opening a passage to Gramsfoot. Within the mine there are several large caverns holding ore deposits and a few smaller side caves. Isendeep Mine is the main source of unrefined ore desired by Angmar and the Free Peoples to forge spare weaponry and armour, and it also contains several Eorlingas Skarn Deposits for eager miners to discover that yield Eorlingas Skarn.
Effect
Holding the mines grants the effect Isendeep Mine to the side in control of Isendeep. This effect grants +20% Infamy/Glory and Commendation gain.
