Description

Gloomingtarn is an area of Gundabad.

The caverns of Gloomingtarn take their name from the great underground lake that dominates the open space, Durthuzâram. Gloomingtarn is a sacred place to the dwarves, the Longbeards especially: on an island in the lake lies Abkân'aban, the Stone of Wakening, where Durin the Deathless first woke beneath the earth. The caverns were guarded for Ages by powerful enchantments barring any but dwarves from setting foot inside, the way into Clovengap held by Burmumekhem, the Gap-gate, and the way into Deepscrave by Zâram-mekhem, the Tarn-gate. It took a terrible artifact crafted by the Witch-king of Angmar to break these enchantments, and that only in recent days. The intrusions that followed have thrown the local ecosystem, undisturbed for Ages, into chaos.
