The King of Gondor was the ruler of the southern kingdom of Gondor in Middle-earth, founded in the aftermath of the Downfall of Númenor by Elendil and his sons, Isildur and Anárion. Gondor became the mightiest realm of the Dúnedain in exile, ruling from great cities such as Osgiliath, Minas Anor, and later Minas Tirith.

The kings of Gondor were descended from Elendil through the line of Anárion, and their reign endured for over two thousand years of the Third Age until the loss of Eärnur, after which the kingdom was governed by the Stewards of Gondor until the return of the king.
