King Atanatar II Alcarin (Atanatar the Glorious) was the sixteenth King of Gondor, ruling from 1149 to 1226 of the Third Age. Unlike the two kings before him, Atanatar made no effort to expand or maintain the power that Gondor commanded and the guard on Mordor was neglected. Therefore his reign is seen as the start of Gondor's decline.
Atanatar II ruled Gondor for 77 years, and was succeeded by his son, Narmacil I. He was honored with a statue and plaque in the Player's Tier of Minas Tirith.
