Talk:Deeds/Explorer Deed Format Testing
The Farms of the Shire is the guinea pig for this page, essentially this page was created to see what different editors had in mind for formatting location deeds.
Normal Template
This isn't "normal", but some existing deeds have the coordinates included in-line with the objectives. Not good, because spoilers.
Ah, gotcha. I was basing it off the most common type that I saw while updating the locations to have locationlists, I'd say it occupied at least 80% of them. Suruki (talk) 16:34, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Deed Lore
- Farming represents the heart of the Shire, and farmsteads can be found throughout - the largest of which surround the town of Michel Delving.
To complete this deed perform the following objective(s)
-
- Dora Brownlock owns one of the largest farms near the sleepy village of Waymeet. She has been having troubles with wolves recently.
- Find Bamfurlong [34.3S, 64.4W]
- Bamfurlong is the land owned by Farmer Maggot, one of the most respected farmers in the Marish.
- Old Odo Burrow once held the largest leaf farm in the Southfarthing, though it has now fallen to ruin.
- The Delving Fields are the largest farmhold in the Westfarthing, providing foodstuffs for much in the Shire.
- Find Appledores [29.5S, 72.0W]
- Farmer Appledore grows some of the sweetest fruit in all the Shire.
- Cam Puddifoot grows a variety of vegetables, but he is best known for his honey, unfortunately, his bees are often threatened by bears.

Another option (Option 3)
We could add a Locations=
parameter to the {{Deed}} template.
Discussion
By the way, how is the additional information inlaid into the rewards tab? it's not even mentioned —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Suruki (Contribs • User Talk).
- It is populated by various other parameters (in this case,
Level=
andParent-deed=
, or you can add bullet points in theExtra=
parameter. --Thurallor (talk) 00:43, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
Well the devs already make us do way too much senseless back-and-forth in quests that when I get around to completing deeds, they've wasted enough of my time. So I much prefer seeing the location coordinates up front because I just want to get them done as quickly as possible. Sagarmatha (talk) 02:11, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- I assume that means you're in favor of Suruki's option. I added you to the table below. --Thurallor (talk) 02:14, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
I have to say the more I look at it option 2 has grown on me. I've added my vote on the table. Eldalleth (talk) 02:37, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
Location tables should be outside of the deed template. --Drono (via Discord)
If i understand it, the difference between the options 'normal' and 1 is that 1 has added table below and removed the coordinates from the listing. I actually have no issue with the coordinates in the listing. especially if they are not using locationList. I was against combining the locations on one map because of spoilers, as sometimes i go into the deed pages to look for a specific location if i can't find it in game for a long time, but don't want to see the locations of other points. This approach would also mean that the existing deed pages would not contradict whatever we agree on now (seems 'normal' will not win). --Drono (talk) 06:55, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- Even though it increases the amount of work for editors, this approach seems reasonable to me. Maybe there's a way to handle the single vs. all points methods in the locationlist template or in the locationlist section/table? Dadwhereismom (talk) 10:05, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- For single points you can click on the specific locations name, and that will bring you to its tab; there it displays its location. The only problems with this method are that it relies on the other page being complete and that it requires an additional click. Suruki (talk) 16:34, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Another thing to consider in the choice between Options 1 & 2 is that sometimes there are other additional sections (example: Treasure-seeker of Elderslade). Are we going to tell users to put the ==Locations==
section inside the Objective=
parameter, but all other additional sections outside of the {{Deed}}
template? --Thurallor (talk) 20:22, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

Conclusion
Well the discussion seems to have died out. Thanks everyone for participating. I see that there is slightly more support for Option 1 than 2, although not a clear consensus. Since there isn't really that much of a difference, let's go with Option 1:
- The locations are listed without coordinates in the
Objective =
part of the {{Deed}} template. - There is a
== Locations ==
section down below, outside the {{Deed}} template, containing the coordinates in a {{LocationList}} template. - Since the spoilers appear at the bottom of the article, it is not necessary to collapse the table. (A {{Questbox}} is not needed.)
