Bestowal dialogue

'I suppose it is time to continue our journey. I have written some more pages about our time in Rohan, but I am finding it hard to write about Dunland. Do you think Willem Whisker is doing all right?

'Bah! I know I should not dwell on it, <name>, but I cannot help it! There is a large settlement to the north-east. It is called Galtrev. Let us go there and see what there is to learn about Dunland. Perhaps if we can learn more about it I will not miss Willem Whisker so keenly!'

Background

Bingo has not taken the departure of Willem Whisker very well, but he is trying to continue his journey.

Objective 1

Bingo wants to travel to Galtrev, in Pren Gwydh. He will meet you inside the city, east of the centre of town.

Bingo Boffin: 'We should travel north-east to the settlement of Galtrev. It could be I will find something interesting there to write about.
Humfrey Rumming: 'Hello there, <class>! I was just talking about you.'
Bingo Boffin: 'Look who I have run into, <name>... it's Humfrey Rumming!'

Objective 2

Humfrey Rumming is to the east of the town centre of Galtrev, in Dunland.

Bingo Boffin: 'This Humfrey does seem to be a curious fellow, doesn't he?'
Humfrey Rumming: 'This is lucky fortune indeed, <class>! A short time ago, I encountered a pair of treasure-seekers, a man and a woman, and the conversation was quite pleasant! Well, it turns out that these two knew about you, <name>. I decided right then and there to give them quite a good deal on a number of treasure maps that had come into my possession.
'You would like to find this pair? Well, you are in luck, because I know where they were going! While we were conversing, they told me that you have quite a head for riddles. I find that hard to believe. A master lore-master such as myself cannot be bested at the riddle-game!
'I will write down their destination in riddle-form, and if you can solve it, you will find them there! Good luck, <class>. Confine your search to Dunland, and let us see if your good fortune holds!'
Humfrey hands you a small parchment with a few sentences scribbled on it

Objective 3

Humfrey Rumming gave you a riddle to solve. It should point to the destination for which Haley Meadowsweet and Theodore Gorse were making.

Humfrey Rumming: 'Solve my riddle, and you will find your friends! They are somewhere in Dunland, but that is the only hint you will get from me!'
Humfrey's Riddle: In this place, the audience does the performing.
A block blocks nothing.
The coins are real until they are followed; then they disappear.
Haley Meadowsweet: 'Hello there, <name>! It has been a long time, hasn't it?'
Theodore Gorse: 'Well, hello, <name>! I did not expect to see you in this place!'
Bingo Boffin: 'I suppose we solved the riddle, <name>. But we were just here!'

Objective 4

  • Talk to Haley Meadowsweet in Avardin

Haley Meadowsweet is in the town of Avardin, in Dunland.

Bingo Boffin: 'You have seen Haley and Theodore since we parted in the Lone-lands? Oh, that must have been while I was lost in Moria. That was such a long time ago, I had quite forgotten!'
Haley Meadowsweet: 'It has been a long time, <name>! I am glad to see that you found Bingo! I knew he would turn up again.
'Our own journey has been fairly uneventful. I think Theodore may be less of a treasure-seeker than when I took him on as a pupil, if you can believe it!
'He will want to tell you about our journey.'

Objective 5

  • Talk to Theodore Gorse in Avardin

Theodore Gorse is in the town of Avardin, in Dunland.

Haley Meadowsweet: 'Theodore will go on for a while, if you let him.'
Theodore Gorse: 'I have a complaint to lodge with you, <name>! Do you remember that shiny necklace you tried to give me back in Eregion? Well, that was not a fake at all, as I thought it might have been at the time. No! It was a real artefact of the dwarves, and Haley has held onto it ever since we took your leave in Eregion.
'And ever since, <name>, we have been beset with ill fortune! This southward journey has been a constant cavalcade of catastrophe! And it is all your fault! That shiny necklace, that Rothstone... it bears a curse of ill fortune!'
Theodore is not finished yet!

Objective 6

  • Talk to Theodore Gorse in Avardin... again

Theodore Gorse is in the town of Avardin, in Dunland.

Haley Meadowsweet: 'Now you have done it, <name>.'
Theodore Gorse: 'How do I know? I will tell you how I know. The weather has been terrible! As we made our way south through Eregion, the skies opened up and the downpour was torrential! You have never seen rain like this, <name>. It was cold as ice, and each droplet hit the skin like hail!
'Thunder rolled across the sky, booming and crashing, and the wind threatened to pick you up and toss you against trees or stone! We were in that land for several days before you gave Haley the Rothstone, and I did not see any weather like that before. But afterwards? It was nearly constant, except for a few days when it was sunny and nice. But those days were the exception!
'Further proof: we had to pick our way across a stream when we entered Enedwaith, and I hurt my ankle sliding down the riverbed. It has only recently started feeling better.'
Theodore has only just begun!

Objective 7

  • Talk to Theodore Gorse in Avardin... again

Theodore Gorse is in the town of Avardin, in Dunland.

Haley Meadowsweet: 'I should have warned you about this.'
Theodore Gorse: 'And furthermore, you know I am a treasure-seeker of some renown. Well, ever since you gave Haley the Rothstone, I have found nothing in the way of treasure at all! It is as if some secret force has cast a shroud over my sight, preventing me from finding even the least valuable trinket or bauble.
'Every ruin is picked clean. Every chest or strongbox is empty. There is no gold, there is no silver, there are no gems. The curse of the Rothstone has so damaged my fortunes that I cannot ever hope to amass a fortune of any type!'
Theodore is still going strong!

Objective 8

  • Talk to Theodore Gorse in Avardin... again

Theodore Gorse is in the town of Avardin, in Dunland.

Haley Meadowsweet: 'I feel badly about this, <name>.'
Theodore Gorse: 'You said you met Humfrey Rumming, and he sent you to find me and Haley? Did he tell you that he sold us a number of treasure maps? They cost me a pretty penny, I don't mind telling you, and so far every single one has come up empty! All my hopes rest on the only treasure map I have not yet tried, but those hopes have become as faint as a guttering candle in a draughty room!
'Bingo said that you were in Avardin earlier today, and yet Humfrey's riddle sent you right back here? That sounds like very bad luck as well, <name>. I think you too have become ensnared in the curse of the Rothstone!'
Can it be? Has he finished? No.'

Objective 9

  • Talk to Theodore Gorse in Avardin... again

Theodore Gorse is in the town of Avardin, in Dunland.

Haley Meadowsweet: 'He is nearly finished. I have grown able to tell.'
Theodore Gorse: 'We need to do something about the Rothstone, <name>. This string of bad luck has become unbearable. We have had such a grievous journey south that I am ready to turn around and head back north! That is how terrible this adventure has become!
'Ask Haley! She will confirm everything I have said to you!'
Theodore finally falls silent

Objective 10

  • Talk to Haley Meadowsweet in Avardin

Haley Meadowsweet is in the town of Avardin, in Dunland.

Theodore Gorse: 'Our luck has turned sour! And it is all because of the Rothstone!'
Haley Meadowsweet: 'It rained once or twice. I haven't noticed that our luck has been any poorer than it ever was, <name>.'
'But if Theodore wants to turn around and head back north, I would not be opposed to travelling with you and Bingo for a spell, if you would have us as companions on your way.'

Objective 11

  • Talk to Bingo in Avardin, in Dunland

Bingo is in the town of Avardin, in Dunland.

Haley Meadowsweet: 'We would be glad to journey with you and Bingo for a time.'
Theodore Gorse: 'Beware, my friends! The curse of the Rothstone will ensnare your fortunes as well!'
Bingo Boffin: 'The more the merrier: that's what I always say! Theodore and Haley will be more than welcome to journey with us as we head northward. It is about time we started that way I would say. The Shire is still a long ways off, and it will be nice to have some company on the road.'
