Sûg Nidar

Sûg Nidar (Shagâni for The Fearwater) is a relatively recently formed great lake. The lake formed following the Din of Stone, when a great cavern east of the Ikorbân collapsed, forming a great open chasm which was eventually flooded with the Ikorbân's water.
The wide, dark mere was discovered by the Ordâkhai, who were surprised to find the land flooded. The lake appeared on no previous map, and was overlooked only by the skeletal gaze of the ruins of Kasukhín. It was clearly large enough to hold a vast number of warships, however, and the Ikorbân remained navigable all the way to the sea. With sharp-eyed archers and spearmen stationed on the bounds, the lake and its accompaying shipyard could remain a secret for as long as it proved necessary. After the destruction of the Corsair fleet by Thorongil, Barkhûsh demanded that a new fleet would be built. The lake became host to a large amount of ships, which were produced in the lakeside ship-yard of Starkhaven. The fleet was poetically named "The Song of Waves and Wind" by Khóbagach Hûl, believing it would be the greatest accomplishment he would oversee.
The Emerald Wood of Nisigím lay nearby, but after the Din of Stone, its trees had started to become blighted and it was rapidly becoming a ghost-forest. Few of its timbers were suitable for firewood, let alone for shipbuilding. Timbers for the fleet and stone for the ship-yard and its wharves thus had to be carted by mûmakil from the Mûr. The heavy forests of An Shêru were cut down, and waggons departed from Khanâg Valoyar and elsewhere every few days, the Temámir accepting payments of silver and gold for aid and asking few questions. Khóbagach Hûl died of the gout long before the Song was completed, but Mordor and Ordâkh worked together to finish the weapon that could destroy their shared enemy. The plan was that the arrival of the Song of Waves and Wind on the shores of Gondor would signal the beginning of the war, but for some unknown reason Barkhûsh launched the attack before the fleet was ready. It stood idle at Sûg Nidar for the duration of the war. It stands there still, even as a new king rules in Gondor and all believe Ordâkh to be defeated.
Since his recent rise as prince of Ordâkh, Góramul Sai has continued the ship-building project in service of Ordâkh in order to restore the empire to glory. He does this to prove his value to the Pale Lady Thothril, the Thardúth who emerged from Damudûr after the defeat of Sauron. Another settlement on the lake shore, close to the entrance to Urash Dâr is Khomar Bóha.
