Mûmakil

Mûmakil (singular Mûmak), known to northern peoples as oliphaunts, are colossal elephantine beasts native to the southern jungles of Far Harad and widely associated with the armies of the Haradrim. Towering above all other land animals of Middle-earth, they possess immense strength and endurance, capable of carrying heavy war-towers and trampling entire formations beneath their feet.
Distinguished by vast bulk, thick hide, and enormous curving tusks, a mûmak can scatter enemies with a single sweep. The Haradrim have tamed these beasts for war, adorning them in scarlet and gold and equipping them with harnesses, armor, and siege-towers from which archers and spearmen strike foes. Though slow to anger, once driven forward a mûmak is nearly unstoppable, shrugging off wounds that would fell lesser creatures.
Mûmakil are intelligent and long-lived, forming strong bonds with their handlers and herds. Their fame reached northern lands as oliphaunts, thought by Hobbits to be imaginary until Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee encountered them in Ithilien. They are presumably related to the mammoths of the Misty Mountains and Forochel, suggesting a once more widespread lineage across Middle-earth. On the battlefield and in legend alike, the mûmak stands as a living engine of war, awe-inspiring, terrifying, and emblematic of Harad's might.
