Caranost

Caranost is a landmark in the South Downs of Cardolan. [45.3S, 41.8W]

These eye-catching ruins, that can be seen from across the region, are a reminder of Arnor at its height. Caranost is split east and west by a long, narrow bridge spanning over a canyon. On the western side lies the multi-level city of which orcs have fortified into a base of operations while on the eastern side lies the gardens of the city as well as the elven camp of Sírlond serving as the only guard against the orcs west.

Notable for its many vantage points in which much of the surrounding area could be easily viewed, its no surprise that orcs have laid claim to it and that elves and rangers alike are desperate to retake it.

Lore

"Once a great city of Arnor and a seat of princes, Caranost was also known as the Red Fort. It was sacked by Angmar during the decline of Cardolan.
The towers of Caranost commanded a wide view of a large expanse of the northern region of Cardolan, but when the city was taken many of the towers were destroyed." — Deed
