Laerdan is the father of Narmeleth. After she fell into madness, he attempted to save her by imprisoning her in Delossad, and scattering the halves of Narchuil in the wilderness. He saw her actions bring ruin to Fornost, and carries a great amount of guilt for the collateral damage he and his daughter have caused. Despite Laerdan's efforts, Narmeleth fell under the sway of Antheron, took the name Amarthiel, and later became the Champion of Angmar. Many of his travels were actually efforts to thwart Amarthiel, contain her influence and save Narmeleth. His efforts proved fruitless in the end, and he was slain by Mordrambor in front of his daughter. His death was not wholly in vain, however, as it broke the Enemy's hold on Narmeleth. Her mind freed, the Elf-maid would lead the Free Peoples to victory over the shadows of Angmar. |
