Celebrimbor (Sindarin for Hand of Silver) is one of the most reputed Jewellers of Middle-earth, and the most skilled of the Noldorin Elves who forged the Rings of Power in Eregion under the supervision of Sauron. Caras Gelebren was his citadel in western Eregion, and it was there that Sauron brought his armies to bear and captured Celebrimbor.

Celebrimbor was born in the Years of the Trees, during the First Age, in the line of Finwë. However, it is known that he had no part in the cruel deeds of his uncles and family. On the contrary, he came to be held in the highest esteem with Elves, Men, and Dwarves; he was one of few elves ever who became a dear friend of the dwarves of Khazad-dûm.
Many tales are told about this master of master craftsmen, and they describe a superb jeweller, Master of the Gwaith-i-Mírdain, the elven jewel-smiths of Eregion. However, another tale tells how he was deeply in love with Galadriel, who was married to Celeborn, and he made her a gem almost as grand as the green gem known as "Elessar", or Elfstone, with trapped sun light within. This is the gem which Galadriel gave Aragorn when the Fellowship visited Lothlórien, as a future wedding gift for him and Arwen. (This was an older version of Celebrimbor's story among Tolkien's notes)
The rumours of Celebrimbor travelled far and wide, and eventually reached Sauron's ear. Around 1200 of the Second Age, Sauron travelled to Eregion, disguised as Annatar ("Lord of Gifts"), and befriended the elven jewellers. With cunning words and the promise of great crafting skill, Sauron quickly gained their favor, and guided them in creating the Rings of Power: the rings that would later become the seven rings for the Dwarves, and the nine rings for Men. However, without Sauron's knowledge Celebrimbor also made the three elven rings Narya, Vilya, and Nenya (meaning "fire, "air", and "water"), and they remained free from his corruption.
Around II 1600 Sauron forged the One Ring to give himself dominion over the Rings of Power, but the elves immediately sensed his intent and took off their rings, hiding the three with the Wise. Celebrimbor was one of those who thwarted his plans, which made him a target of Sauron's wrath. In II 1695 Sauron marched on Eregion. After two years of fighting, Celebrimbor's citadel of Caras Gelebren was at last sacked and Celebrimbor was captured. The War of the Elves and Sauron continued, but Celebrimbor was slain. Sauron made a banner of his body and bore it with his armies, until Oranoril, an old companion of Celebrimbor's, captured it in the last defence of Eitheldir.
In LOTRO Celebrimbor is featured as a statue which can be used as a decoration for a garden. It can be bought from Rombrennil in Imlad Gelair, Rivendell. He is also seen in the Skirmish Doom of Caras Gelebren.
