Bestowal Dialogue
'He has asked to see you. Disturb him not overlong! But I would not dare to keep you from him, lest I risk either your ire or that of the King!'
Background
The threat posed by the Song of Waves and Wind has been met, and now those wounded during the attack must work to recover their wounds and rebuild their homes.
You can return to The Harlond in Flames by using the banner east of the Beacon-gate, in Umbar Baharbêl.
Objective 1
King Elessar recovers from his wound in the Harlond infirmary.
- Líniel: 'Do not make the King wait! He wants to speak to you and hear that the battle is ended!'
- King Elessar: The King smiles at you, and you are reassured to see the return of his strength.
- 'My friend, I am glad to see you survived the battle! The reports I have heard tell me the threat of the Song is ended.'
- You tell King Elessar that Aphadaer has paid for his treachery, and both Nakási and Balakhâd perished during the fighting. He nods.
- 'Would that we could have dissuaded them from this course, but alas! Only rarely is that possible. I confess to you it never occurred to me that Aphadaer could have been the supporter of the Heirs of Castamir whose presence we suspected in Minas Tirith. The gaze of my suspicion turned always to those who wielded greater power than my groom of horses! And yet the Heirsworn prized his reports, believing he was always only moments away from wielding the blade that would end my life. Surely there were opportunities to be had before today, <name>?
- 'This I believe, for it seems to fit every fact. While the Harlond burned, Aphadaer stood near enough to me to whisper his battle-cry in my ear. "For the Heirs of Castamir!" he said as he slipped his knife beneath my armour, and I all unsuspecting. How then did his blade not pierce a vital organ? How could he inflict this wound with such murderous intent and yet not spill the last of my life's blood?
- 'I think our tour of King's Gondor planted a seed, <name>. When he travelled with us to Anfalas and to Pinnath Gelin, he did so intending to serve the interests of the Heirs of Castamir, but I think our journey caused a sapling to grow within his heart. When today he saw the opportunity to carry out his intention, I believe he was unable to fully wield the blade that could end my life, and his aim went astray, despite his purpose.
- 'None can say if this be truly so, but that is my belief. I weep not for Aphadaer, but I hail him for my life, even as he sought the taking of it.'
- Queen Arwen and the healer Ioreth arrive at the King's bedside
Objective 2
Queen Arwen and Ioreth the Healer have come to the Harlond infirmary.
- King Elessar: 'I mourn the loss of so much life, but I am grateful for such heroes as you, my friend. Without your aid the cost of this day would have been much worse.'
- Ioreth: Ioreth sputters madly, for once at a loss for words.
- 'The Queen asked me to attend her as she came to the Harlond. Is it true that Aphadaer thought to attack the King? Oh me! Oh my!'
- You tell Ioreth that the groom attempted to kill the King, but was unsuccessful in the attempt and perished defending Balakhâd, son of Balakhôr. She nods sagely, overcoming her surprise.
- 'I always suspected he was a villain, <name>. Did I not tell you as we journeyed in Outer Gondor that he was up to no good? Let none say Ioreth fails to see things as they are!'
- Queen Arwen: Arwen smiles at you warmly.
- 'I am once again in your debt, dear <name>! My husband is ever eager to charge near and far in support of his people. Perhaps this bed will keep him from embarking upon foolish errands for a time!
- 'A short time only, I suspect. I am told his wound is shallow, and it would take one of more severity to keep him from tending to the needs of his people! But today he will rest, and for that I am grateful.'
Objective 3
King Elessar recovers from his wound in the Harlond infirmary.
- Ioreth: Ioreth sputters to herself with disbelief.
- Queen Arwen: Queen Arwen smiles at you and turns her attention to her injured husband.
- King Elessar: You can tell the King will not long remain abed. Already he desires to get up and move around, despite the instructions of his healers! You advise that he lay still and not aggravate his injury, and he shakes his head with amusement.
- 'The battle has ended, but there is something I need you to do, <name>.
- 'Nakási's attack on Gondor must reshape the Kindred of the Coins, for it is my understanding that some of that body supported her in this and others did not. Belondor died in our defence, but Rothog and Tatháta also fought on our behalf, and they survived. What befell those who remained behind in Umbar?
- 'I ask that you speak to Jajax here in the infirmary and prepare to return with him to his city, <name>. We must learn what we can of the situation in Umbar now that the threat posed by the Song of Waves and Wind has been eliminated.'
Objective 4
- Talk to Jajax in the Harlond infirmary
Jajax is in the Harlond infirmary.
- King Elessar: 'Speak to Jajax and return with him to Umbar. I must know the state of that city, and the position of its ruling Kindred.'
- Jajax: When you complete this quest, you will sail back to Umbar with Jajax to carry out King Elessar's wishes.
- 'Yes, I understand. When we sailed from Umbar Baharbêl, the city was in turmoil, and my brother was somehow in the middle of it! Let us return to the Sail-haven and learn what happened while we were gone. I will speak with you not far from the Beacon-gate when we have arrived. I have many questions.
- 'Does the Kindred rule still? Might there be a reward for those of us who fought to protect both Gondor and Umbar from the ravages of the Song? King Elessar is not the only one who wants answers, <name>! Let us go at once!'
