Kúthaus

Kúthaus is a mountain pass at the southern edge of Wildermore, marking the road that leads into the Norcrofts. Situated in the Fallows near Edsig's Farm at approximately [43.6S, 58.9W], the pass serves as one of the few viable routes between the two regions.

Kúthaus lies in the southernmost reaches of Wildermore, where the farmland of the Fallows gives way to rougher terrain and the rising hills that separate it from the Norcrofts. In times of peace, the pass would serve as a vital artery for trade, riders, and news between the settlements of eastern Rohan. However, during the unnatural winter that grips Wildermore, Kúthaus becomes a strategic choke point. Road-guard Uruks and Fallows Warg-riders take control of the southern road, preventing travel and isolating the struggling farms of the Fallows. The occupation of the pass confirms that the troubles of Wildermore are not merely local misfortunes, but part of a broader campaign by Saruman's forces to destabilize the Eastemnet.

During the events of Chapter 6: Fallow Ground, Kúthaus is discovered to be occupied by hostile forces aligned with Saruman, cutting Wildermore off from aid and communication with the Norcrofts. At the urging of Horn, aid is sent to patrol the Fallows and investigate the southern road. Warg-riders are encountered throughout the region, and upon reaching Kúthaus it becomes clear that uruk-hai have deliberately seized the pass. After defeating the foes stationed there, Horn receives the news at Gárferth's Farm. The discovery confirms his suspicion that Wildermore's isolation is intentional: had the road been safe, word of the region's suffering would have spread sooner.
