Make constructive reverts

You reverted my change to The Flaming Deeps, but you did not fix the orphan page problem.
You reverted my change to Corruption Removal Skills, but you did not fix the uncategorized page problem.

Rhosgobel Quests

Why did you change the "questgroup" parameter for all of the Rhosgobel quests? "Vales of Anduin" is the heading they're found under in the quest log (along with the three "Protecting..." quests). My understanding is that the wiki standard practice is to set "questgroup" to the quest log heading, and use "questchain" for any necessary additional grouping.
Also, the pages are now broken for three of the quests, due to the "questgroup" parameter being completely deleted.
-Velkeirien (talk) 09:06, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
My issue with "questgroup" and "questchain" is that they are often subcategories of each other. According to the categorization manual, pages should belong only to the bottom-most category. Unfortunately the current template does not provide a solution to this, editing the Questbox template would cause changes on large amount of pages, but it seems there is not better solution to this.
Sorry for the inconvenience, i reverted those changes. Thanks for letting me know.
- Drono (talk) 10:41, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
All right; thanks for the explanation, and the reverts.
Looks like in older regions, the quest groups and quest chains are generally two separate categories underneath the region category. That's not what I've seen in the categorization for more recent regions, on which I've been basing the Vales of Anduin categorization. I'm not sure when the practice changed, or why, but perhaps the newer regions should have their categorization changed to come in line with the older practice.
-Velkeirien (talk) 11:26, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
Reading through [Category talk:Quest Chains], seems "questchain"s are no longer in use by SSG. However the questchian box would be ridiculous - see [Quest:Introduction: Vales of Anduin].
In my opinion best would be to change the Questbox template to stop the unwanted behavior.
- Drono (talk) 14:16, 14 September 2019 (UTC)
At the time, we didn't have any better idea than using a quest-chain category from which we included relevant text to affected quests into the quest-chain box. After a long hiatus I am back in game and find this old discussion. I don't know if any new tech has been introduced during those 7 years. But back then, having one text-blob to include into a number of quests seemed more robust than having to update a bunch of quests upon each update to them. But yes, that tech adds more categories. However, there is no "rule" that demands just one category per page. Actually, that would defeat much of what this wiki has accomplished over the years. Zimoon 21:16, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
The issue is not that the page is in "many" categories, but that it is in both category and its subcategory - which actually defeat the purpose of categorization. It also visually break the quest page in some cases, where the questchain box gets suddenly wider than the others. There is quite recent piece of tech that could solve it - LabeledSectionTransclusion, however the Infobox Quests template would have to be updated. Example of wrong categorization - [Category:Vales of Anduin: Rhosgobel Quests] has 15 pages which all are also in the parent category [Category:Vales of Anduin Quests] that has 22 pages. So there is 7 pages that might belong there (maybe they are double categorized from somewhere else) but to find which they are you need to look at both categories. In this case, it is probably not hard, but there might be other categorization issues like this with hundreds of pages. --Drono (talk) 08:15, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
Quest categories confused me at first, long ago, until I understood that the auto-generated category is for the quest-group that is seen in the game's quest window but that category often overlaps with the <Region> Quests category, if the region and the quest-group has the same name, as for Bree-land Quests. Not so for the quest-group North Downs versus North Downs Quests where the latter has just one quest listed, but several sub-categories.
For your example I see that [Category:Vales of Anduin: Rhosgobel Quests] is a quest chain. I have not played so far yet so I cannot tell whether that is correct or not. Neither do I know if the quest-group is correct. But those both auto-generates the categories. On the other hand, e.g. A Gift From Radagast should have a manually added category for Radagast's Cottage, a sub-category of Vales of Anduin Quests. But in the end of the day, here you have a problem of a quest-group category with same-name region category. To which I have no remedy but education.
Should we remove the quest-group thingie? Being less detailed? There are quests with particular quest-groups with a region, not many but there are. I think we should keep the detail, meaning we have to live with this anomaly. Or, we could retain the quest-group category but rename all region quests categories to e.g. Region Bree-land Quests. And the latter should likely just have sub-categories for areas. — Zimoon 14:24, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
Rereading the discussion i see your suggestion for this issue: Category_talk:Quest_Chains#Not_Real_Quest_Chains - unfortunately, it seems we were not doing so. In the example of [Category:Vales of Anduin: Rhosgobel Quests] it means, it should not be subcategory of [Category:Vales of Anduin: Rhosgobel Quests] but somewhere in the questchain tree, and the pages would need to be edited. --Drono (talk) 15:13, 4 November 2021 (UTC)

Uploading Picturesa

Thanks for your help. I am feeling my way but wanted to get the new items up. If policy is to omit floating names I will do it -- but I think the floating names enhance the picture myself. RULE ONE - The Administrator is always right. RULE TWO - If the Administrator is ever wrong, refer to RULE ONE.

JK - I appreciate the help. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lavandil (Contribs • User Talk).

Old Class Guides

I had removed the old class guides from the Class page they are very outdated but they got but back on. Is there a reason for this thanks. Oakheart (talk) 12:36, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

No, sorry, i was looking at the previous diff and i guess i edited wrong page. Drono (talk) 12:43, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

.PNG to .JPG Thanks

Thanks for re-uploading those image files in the proper format. I should have noticed that when I was categorizing all those images. Oakheart (talk) 11:44, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the categorization. I usually try to not categorize images that are not yet in use/have some problems, as the pages Special:UnusedFiles and Category:Stubs/Image already have lot of files in them, in hope someone will notice and upload better image before they get lost there.

Template not categorizing

I am trying to categorize Template:Epic to general wiki templates I have added the category but it is still showing as not categorized.

Oakheart (talk) 07:09, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

Please do not categorize templates directly - it is done trough the Doc pages. Look at Template:Documentation
If you want to categorize page that is transcluded somewhere, use <noinclude>CATEGORY</noinclude>.
Drono (talk) 07:13, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

ah ok I see now thanks. Oakheart (talk) 07:22, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

Fixed the Epic Template too - was case of not matching brackets and missing / Drono (talk) 07:53, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

png to jpg

why are you uploading jpg version of the png files? Coloration is very degraded in jpg and quality to some extent —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rohanreads (Contribs • User Talk) at 22 December 2020.

Because according to Help:Images they should be uploaded in .jpg format.

Bracelet 4 icon

That's a great idea to check for icons in-game with the Item Treasury plugin, thanks for the tip! I've made the necessary corrections on the wiki. Silver hr (talk) 14:21, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Remmorchant Quartermaster (Medium Armour Trader)

Your recent edit to the Remmorchant Quartermaster (Medium Armour Trader) page seems to have messed up the formatting of the tables.

I was 1/2 way through fixing the tables and ran out of time :-) --Sucamarto 08:39, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
Posted this in discord, will do here, in cases like this, search and replace is very useful. What i do is i copy the barter tables to notepad (or probably any other text editor), and use the search and replace tool. In this case i searched for }}|- to make sure to match just the ones at the end and replace with }}\n|- (the \n is newline character). Than similarly for the table end. --Drono (talk) 08:08, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

Game guide sandbox for U30.3 Low Level LI Conversion

I have basically done a guide / brain download / example of LI conversion on a low level alt. Knowing that things will probably change and, within a few months, it may be badly out of date, I don't want to merge it with the main LI page. But I also don't want it to die in obscurity. Sandbox:U30.3_Low_Level_LI_Conversion It has a certain instructive usefulness, especially for the slow levelers out there. As always this is a wiki, it's collaborative, it's not "mine" but a "contribution." Just thought I'd say that out loud. Use what you wish from it, where you see fit. Or I can add it as a "real" guide and link from the LI page if you think it's worth doing that. Acatlover2 (talk) 15:11, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

I havent done much with the Legendary Items page writing so not sure why you are posting here. I wouldn't like the page getting too big, but i wouldn't mind putting a link to your guide there. I wouldn't worry about it getting out of date in months, im guessing most people will do the conversion now if they haven't already, even if not exactly correct might be a good reference for them. --Drono (talk) 16:04, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
