Reminders
This section lists pages I'd like to update in the future. However feel free to do so on your own. Just because it's on my mind doesn't mean I'll get to it anytime before next year! :) Acatlover2 (talk) 14:18, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
- Engineer is missing the set-bonus buffs granted at various ranks of engineer. Some general comments would help also such as that gaining at least rank 4 of engineer is helpful and why
Intro
I've been playing since the level cap was 50, but mostly off and on. I'm no expert but when I get the feeling "others should know about this" I generally contribute. The customizability of gear in LOTRO is my favorite part of the game. It's brilliant to give people options like that, I think it involves me in the game more. Only recently did I have my moment of "this is MY game" and it happened in Ost Celebrant, where I recognized an old story of some old battles that gave me a shiver. I wonder if the developer knew he was telling a story that could've been taken from real life in Europe around 1500, or if it was a coincidence. Either way, it really pulled me in.
Previously, I grew up knowing about and playing Dungeons and Dragons (paper and pen, 1st edition, hardback). By the time I went to college I was leading groups myself in my own player-created world, and even started a union of groups that met in public places such as pizza parlors, Denny's, etc. I've won convention tournaments for roleplaying games, and helped playtest crossover games such as an amusing form of Call of Cthullu and Toon. In real life, I met the father of rpg's, Dave Arneson (met to have dinner with), and exchanged pleasantries with Gary Gygax by email. Their legacy will never be forgotten and I count myself lucky to have had a chance to say a personal thank you. I helped playtest several versions of online game expansions, though not LOTRO expansions (not yet).
My personal opinion is that role playing games are not silly wastes of time or for kids only. I've learned the negotiation my parents neglected to teach me, along with a sense for when I'm pressing my luck. I've experienced worlds that don't exist in real life. Spoken with "famous" people whose fame only exists on a computer hard drive or book (Raistlin, Elric, The Bard, Tier Dal, Ysera, Elminster, Legolas, Deekin, more...) I've been awed by the beauty created by artists whose names I don't know and would forget if I read the credits. But their work is not forgotten. I've heard music in styles long forgotten and unpopular today because they fit the mood of the game, and rejoiced when famous real life actors have chosen to voice characters in video games. Games are part museum, part fiction, part racetrack. So I hope you will join me in respecting the game industry and RPG gaming in particular for the gifts it gives us while sometimes scraping by on less money than it deserves. Playstyle
I join groups when I can but I'm not "serious" in the sense of raiding. I join T1 raids when they're doable and new, and that's about my level of hardmode play anymore. I try to keep current on at least two characters and have a VIP and a separate free to play account so I can remember what that's like. My two best characters are Runekeeper and Guardian. I wish I were better at wiki markup. It might be months before I catch up to the bleeding edge but I somehow always get there. Acatlover2 (talk) 00:56, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
