Prelude: Stonekin

Dear Diary,

Today I fool named Stonekin taught me how not to advertise for my new kinship. It can't be a good sign if I'm learning something from a fool.

Tomorrow will be a better day.

Chapter 1: Laurel

The smoke above the table made hypnotic, swirling patterns as the chair flew through it. Woard slowly turned in see where the projectile originated and saw two people having a conversation.

"I dare you to say that one more time! My bear needs more teeth for his necklace!"

I slowly occurred to Woard that he had not even seen the bear and that perhaps he was a little drunk. Ah, but he deserved a little drink. Here he was trying to make the world a better place with his new kinship, and he could not even get a single member to join. Perhaps the two having a conversation would like to join?

As Woard stumbled over, the bear-owner drew himself up to his full height of 6' 2". He was an imposing sight, and not just because of his height and bear. He had dark brown eyes that seemed to pierce the soul and numerous scars that showed a hard life. "Have you come to make fun of my name too?!"

"I don't have time right now," replied Woard. "I need to from a kinship! Want to join?"

The remark caught Laurel off-guard. Laurel looked him over, seeing a man of apparently well-to-do origins judging by his attire, but who had clearly fallen on hard times judging by how worn they were - A fellow soul who had come to drown his misery at the Prancing Pony.

By now the vagrant who had insulted him had fled the inn and everyone else was doing their best to ignore him and his bear, so Laurel turned his attention to Woard. "You don't want me in your kinship. I've been thrown out of every one I've ever been in."

"Why is that?" asked Woard.

"Injustice. People ridicule me and my name and it is I who gets thrown out for trying to knock sense into them!"

"Hmm... Well, that's not a problem in the Kinship of the Awesome. I'm the only other member, so there's no one to make fun of you!"

"Ha ha! I like your style. Sure, I'll join you. You don't mind if I rob your kin chest and leave tomorrow, do you?"

"I'd love for you to do that. Because first you would have to buy us a kin chest to rob!"

Chapter 2: Alinguist

Woard sat in the Bree library, looking through books with blurry pages that like to spin across the desk. "Hey, Laurel," he called, "I have not found a good recipe to get rid of drunkenness. Have you?"

"No, but if we feel this bad now, I'd concentrate on a cure for the hangover tomorrow."

Alinguist, the librarian, had ignore their drunken shouting since there were no other patrons at the moment. Even if there were a patron, he might have ignored them. A drunk is bad, but an angry drunk is worse. But now Alinguist's interest was piqued. The race of Men named their men Laurel?

Out of Character History

Kinship of the Awesome has around 400 members, approximately 0 of which are on at any given time. Please let me know if you want to join :)

One of my storage alts joined Kinship of the Awesome one day when the leader was advertising. I talked with the leader for a while, but no one else joined. A couple months later, I logged into the alt again and found I was the kinship leader. This was my fourth character who had somehow or the other become a kinship leader of a dead kinship, so I did what I usually did: Changed the kinship note to advertise other major kinships, made a note in my file, and logged out for another few months.

However, sometimes I wonder about these dead kinships that were once filled with hundreds of active players swapping tales, fighting side-by-side, and forging friendships that can transcend the game. What was their history? What adventures did they share? I began to forge a story of the Kinship of the Awesome. And so, in memory of the 400+ people who worked to make the Kinship of the Awesome truly awesome, I am crafting videos. Your kinship, dear would-be friends, will rise again.
