Walkthrough & Notes

Use the Illusion of a Stone, then travel to Stormwall, in Ered Mithrin. There is a hidden switch at [38.1N, 43.1W]. After it is pulled, a hidden door is found at [38.6N, 43.8W], behind the pillar. Clues in the hidden chamber will direct you to find  Ashmâr-abân, which is a pendant earned in The Howling Pit instance in Járnfast. You receive it by completing the deed The Howling Pit (Advanced). Once you have the pendant, speak to Náin the Slakeless on his throne above to turn it into a wearable necklace (See: Quest:The Lost Pendant). To to gain access to The Howling Pit you must complete the quest chain Beneath the Fold. Note that you do not need to get the necklace yourself, if you are accompanied player who is wearing the necklace for the next steps of the quest! This is helpful if you had previously earned Ashmâr-abân and vendored/destroyed it. Step outside the entrance to The Howling Pit. Slot the necklace and walk along the walls near the stairs. When you reach the correct area, Hidden Runes will become visible (sparkling/glowing, becomes targetable) to anyone nearby. Activate the runes. You'll receive  Hidden Runes Spoiler Alert Location of the hidden runes outside The Howling Pit. The text revealed will read: "The symbol of his power adorns his crown" + "aglâmbazari" (meaning "gleam", so why not "glimmer"? -> Glimmerdeep). After finding the first set of runes, find and activate more sets of runes in the following order: Ered Mithrin, near Glimmerdeep (landscape): behind the waterfall next to a small bridge as you approach the entrance [38.6N, 47.7W]. You'll receive  Hidden Runes Spoiler Alert Location of the hidden runes outside the Glimmerdeep. Zhelruka inscription reads: "But the crown unheaded (?) served as his prison" Khuzdul inscription says: "DURZMAZAL" (meaning "Chamber of Faces" -> location inside Thikil-gundu) Thikil-gundu ((resource) instance): behind one of the statues in the entrance hall [23.4N, 135.9W]. You'll receive  Hidden Runes Spoiler Alert Location of first the hidden runes inside Thikil-gundu. The Erebor runes direct you to Afhan-binnin. Thikil-gundu ((resource) instance): behind the giant geode on the upper level of the Lore-trove of Afhân-binnîn [24.2N, 135.4W]. You'll retrieve  Hidden Runes Spoiler Alert Location of second the hidden runes inside Thikil-gundu. These runes point to Thikil-nesad Thikil-gundu ((resource) instance): behind the throne in Thikil-nesad, the Steel Seat [25.0N, 136.0W]. You'll receive  Hidden Runes Spoiler Alert Location of the third hidden runes inside Thikil-gundu. The text revealed will read: "Upon the sight tower the faces of stonecarver watch over the key" -> Durin’s tower above Moria, also know as Zirakzigil. Go to Zirakzigil in Moria, where you will find five levers scattered in the snow. [14.4N, 109.0W] [14.8N, 108.7W] [15.0N, 109.0W] [15.1N, 109.5W] [14.0N, 109.5W] Pull all of the levers, then climb further up the side of the mountain, past The Searchers' Eyrie. The  Ancient Key can be found at [13.7N, 110.0W]. Return to the hidden room at Stormwall [38.6N, 43.8W] to claim the first stone! If you accepted the other 3 Stone quests, you can collect those stones first before returning to the hidden room. The necklace is no requirement for the other 3 Stone quests. You swear you can hear faint whispers, bidding you to look more closely. Background The stones must be returned to their rightful places in the Crown Chamber. Objective 1 Inspect the illusion of the first stone An illusion has appeared before you in the Crown Chamber. You should inspect the illusion of the first stone. Objective 2 Find the first stone The missing stone is out there somewhere, waiting to be found. Hidden Switch: You hear stones shifting somewhere nearby Objective 3 Find the first stone The missing stone is out there somewhere, waiting to be found. Objective 4 Find the first stone The missing stone is out there somewhere, waiting to be found. Objective 5 Find the first stone The missing stone is out there somewhere, waiting to be found.
