This is the template documentation for {{Npcbox}}. It is transcluded from Template:Npcbox/doc and may be directly edited there.
  • This template is for all non-player character (NPC) articles found within the game that are not located in a PvMP (Monster Play) zone.
  • Create_new_NPC should be used to create a NPC article (page), then fill in the appropriate parameters.

Optional parameters

nocat

Use this only when the {{Obsolete|type=npc}} has been added to the page. If this parameter is set to yes or X, this template will not add the page to any categories. Instead the Obsolete template will add to Category:Obsolete NPCs.

noloc

Use this for a page with empty location parameters (region, area, etc.) but the page must have other NPC-related categories, such as Category:Scenery NPCs or alike. Use preview-mode to make certain that is the case if using this parameter. If this parameter is set to yes or X, this template will not add the page to Category:NPCs (which is the default when location parameters are empty) but it will add any other category per the following documentation.

image

In the commented copy above, an optional "image" parameter is described. Use this only if the image needs to have a different name than that of the NPC's name.
See for example Bogi and Selur which share the same multi-named image. ".jpg" added to image file name. Or see Stable-master (Eaworth), a page for a Stable-master generically named "Stable-master" found at Eaworth. His image is named "Stable-master (Eaworth).jpg" and image=Stable-master (Eaworth) is used.

location

With the location-parameters an optional "location" parameter is described. Use this only when the NPC is found at a location which should not have a location-category.

Meaning Behind the Parameters

name
The name of the NPC. Please do not use {{PAGENAME}}, as this can cause problems with the tooltip, particularly when special characters are involved.
image
Optional - defaults to {{PAGENAME}}. This overwrites the filename of an image to include and should be used only if necessary, see optional image. Image will be scaled down to 200px width or 300px height, whichever is greater.
title
The unique title of the NPC. This should only be filled in if the title differs from the role or if the NPC has no role but has a title.
Examples: If Frodo Baggins is a Supplier (vendor), but in-game it states Ringbearer under his name, then Ringbearer is the title and Supplier is the role. If Gandalf has Wizard under his name in-game, but he does not have a role (other than Quest, which is recorded separately), then his title is Wizard and role is left blank.
role
The role that the NPC fulfills. Used to categorize NPC by type.
Examples: Burglar Trainer, Master of Apprentices, Notary, Heavy Armoursmith, Novice Tailor. If the role is very similar to the title (and the title is intuitive, use type1, type2 or manually; e.g Light Armour Trader, add Light Armoursmith to type1 as there is no need to spam the info-box.
gender
The sex of the NPC. Specify "Male", "Female" or "Neutral". Default not shown.
race
The race of the NPC. Default not shown. Brackets for linking are automatically added.
level
Only for combat NPCs; the level of the NPC. Default not shown, not used for non-combat NPCs.
difficulty
Only for combat NPCs; the "difficulty" of the NPC. Default not shown, not used for non-combat NPCs.
Examples: Normal, Signature, Defender, Avenger, Hero
morale
Only for combat NPCs; the total amount of morale of the NPC. Default not shown, not used for non-combat NPCs.
Thousands should be split with a comma, e.g. 1,000.
power
Only for combat NPCs; the total amount of power of the NPC. Default not shown, not used for non-combat NPCs.
Thousands should be split with a comma, e.g. 3,456.
region
The name of the region in which the NPC can be found. Used to categorize "Category:<Region> NPCs" and NPC by location.
Tooltip Coords will use "region" if "map" is not specified.
Examples: Ered Luin, The Shire, Redhorn Lodes, Mirkwood
area
The name of the area in which the NPC can be found. Used to categorize "Category:<Area> NPCs".
Examples: Falathlorn, Hobbiton-Bywater, Carn Dûm
settlement
The name of the settlement in which the NPC can be found. Used to categorize "Category:<Settlement> NPCs".
Examples: Celondim, Michel Delving, Aughaire.
landmark
The name of the landmark in which the NPC can be found. Used to categorize "Category:<Landmark> NPCs".
Examples: Northern Barricade, Lob's Grove, Dol Vaeg.
interior
The name of the interior in which the NPC can be found. Used to categorize "Category:<Interior> NPCs".
Examples: Scholar's Enclave, Shire Standard House. Also used if "settlement" is already used (rare).
dungeon
The name of the dungeon in which the NPC can be found. Used to categorize "Category:<Dungeon> NPCs".
Examples: Silver Deep
location
Use only for locations that should not add to a location-category. Always use "area", "settlement", "landmark", "interior" and "dungeon" for categorization.
map
Used by maprefNS/EW. Specify this if the map differs from the default, i.e. region name.
Examples: Thorin's Gate, Shire Homesteads
maprefNS
The N/S coordinates at which the NPC can be found. Not shown without map or region. (Use "?" to make a "Coordinates Needed" placeholder.)
Examples: 51.2S, 22.9N
maprefEW
The E/W coordinates at which the NPC can be found. Not shown without map or region. (Use "?" to make a "Coordinates Needed" placeholder.)
Examples: 28.4E, 33.0W
quest
Blank, or any text if the NPC is involved in one or more quests. This field is not displayed, but if not-blank it will add the NPC to Category:Quest NPCs.
type1
Blank or used to categorize under NPC by type, if needed. This field is not displayed, but needs to be entered accurately for proper categorization.
Example: If the NPC's role is Supplier, but the NPC only appears during the Spring Festival, then this field's input is Spring Festival, and the article is then added to category Spring Festival NPCs. If the NPC serves during all festivals then "Festival" is enough, otherwise use next field for the second festival. Make sure the category exists.
type2
Same as type1. More than two extra categories is out of bounds for this template and you must add extra categories by hand.
