The User Interface (UI) refers to menus, windows, buttons and other things which allow the player to interact with the game environment without being part of the environment themselves.
- The UI is extremely customizable. See the OPTIONS panel and click on UI Settings. Some of the options under Combat Options, Chat and Quickslots also affect aspects of the User Interface.
- The UI is also customizable through modifications such as Lua Plugins, which add features & functionality.
- The player is also able to customizing the appearance of the interface via Skins.
- It is possible to re-position elements of the User Interface.
- Depending on your language and keyboard layout, the default button for this functionality might vary. On american keyboards, it is CTRL-Backslash (Ctrl + \).
- On a UK keyboard, use CTRL-hash (Ctrl + #)
- If neither of those work, you can find the appropriate key mapping for this, under Key Mapping/Miscellaneous. Use the Search box in the Options panels to find Reposition UI.
- Positioning information can be saved using the /ui layout <save | load> <filename> command. And can be reloaded on a different character if desired.
- The entire UI as well as individual elements can be re-sized through the "Options -> UI settings" panel.
- Target lock-on mode toggle is occasionally invoked accidentally, if the default keybinding of "x" is inadvertently typed, and when toggled "on", causes the player character to spin around, at all times facing their target. The use of this function is highly situational, and most players will likely want to unbind it. Search target in keybindings. Once unbound, "x" can be repurposed for another function; many useful functions in LOTRO have no keybinding by default.
- No macro functionality is available. It is unlikely to ever be added to the game.
- Quickslots can be defined which allow single keystroke execution of certain actions. However, Quickslots cannot be scripted to execute multiple actions.
