Melrose’s Journal
I am Melrose. I have been training as a lore-master since I first left Rohan for the area around Bree.
On the way to Bree, I was captured by brigands and helped the ranger Amdir free a couple of hobbits from them. During the fight, Amdir was wounded by a black rider.
Bree-land
Eastern Bree-land
Archet
When we got to Archet, I began to get involved in the preparations to fight off the local brigands. When they finally attacked, the town was seriously damaged; however, the people are rebuilding. After helping some with the aftermath of the attack, I moved onto Combe and Staddle to help the people there.
Level 7
Combe
I spent some time meeting the people of Combe; many of them had small jobs for me to do. These seem to be
I registered with the local craft guild as an Historian. I will primarily be a Scholar; however, I will also practice at becoming a Farmer (I expect to leave my Weaponsmith skills undeveloped).
I was invited to meet with Toradan, a ranger who is staying at the inn in Combe. He asked me to work with Constable Underhill to infiltrate the Blackwold brigands in an effort to find Amdir. So far I have been working with Ellie Cutleaf, a dog trainer with second thoughts about what is happening with the brigands. |
At the moment, I have finished most of the simpler jobs for the people of Combe. I still have a few that involve confronting the brigands where they are strongest; I think I will come back to those when I am stronger.
level 9
Pilgrimage to Ered Luin
I have been working on my scholarship and have progressed enough for my trainer to suggest that I visit Nathronwen in Duillond, which is in the Elven section of Ered Luin. After arriving in Celondim, I helped a few people along the way.
Level 11 Apprentice Scholar
Staddle
I have decided to move on to Staddle. If nothing else, I can work the fields to begin learning farming. After getting lost in the joy of farming for a while, I began helping the people of Staddle as well as finishing some of my harder jobs from Combe.
Level 13 Master Expert Farmer
Although I was able to get into the brigands lair, release Amdir, and kill Skunkwood, the leader of the brigands, Amdir was too strongly corrupted by the Black Rider and killed Toradan before escaping. I have been one step behind Amdir as he eliminates rangers in the area. The last one sent me into Bree to talk to Strider. |
level 14 Master Apprentice Scholar
Western Bree-land
Having done all I can for the people of the eastern Bree-land, I wandered into Bree itself. I have found a number of people who need my help.
Adso's Camp
Finishing a delivery to Adso's Camp, I decided to stay and help them get started. It turns out Adso is paying protection to the local brigands, but I put a stop to that.
Buckland
All the way to the west, on the banks of the Brandy River, is the area of Buckland, a Hobbit community in Bree-land. I was asked to go there to help them with some problems, which seem to be centered around the Old Forest, which is getting really spooky lately.
Level 15
Southern Bree-fields
The Chief Watcher of Bree sent me out to investigabe brigand activity near the town. When I found some evidence, I was assigned to help ranger Saeradan investigate further.
Level 16
Northern Bree-fields
My work with Saerandan lead me further north to battle orcs. On the way I stopped by the Hengstacer Farm and found there were jobs for me to do. I eventually met Oddvarr, who needed me to recover things from the orcs. While fighting the orcs, I managed to free Robb Thornley from them.
Level 17 Journeyman Scholar
The Barrow-downs
I have been putting off going into the Barrow-downs to handle some of the jobs I heard about earlier; however, this seems the time. There are a number of items and people for me to find and undead to hunt.
Back to the Old Forest I went back into the Old Forest to finish some more jobs like finding Farmer Maggot's son. There are a couple of very dangerous tasks left there, but I think I will need some helpers for them.
Level 18
Lone-lands
The Forsaken Inn
Several tasks from Bree brought me to the Forsaken Inn in the Lone-lands. There I found more people who needed my help both with the wild creatures of the area and the Goblins and Orcs that have recently become a problem.
Returning to the Journal after a bit of a break from writing:
North Downs
I spent some time working for the people in the Trestlebridge, Amon Raith, Kingsfield, Lin Giliath, and Esteldin areas.
Level 27
Lone-lands
Ost Guruth
The people in Trestlebridge mentioned that there was a community in the midst of the Lone-lands at Ost Guruth that could use my help and I travelled there to see what I could do for them.
