The Hornburg
"The Hornburg must not fall! This is the last defence, my friend. We must stand for as long as we can. For Rohan."
Background
In the hours before dawn, the forces of Saruman show no sign of relenting. The defenders have retreated into the Hornburg, uncertain of their ability to long survive against the forces of Isengard.
Objective 1
Háma, the door-ward of Théoden, stands before the Hornburg. He braces himself for news of the battle.
- Háma: 'How fares the battle down below, <name>? There has been hard fighting up here, and Théoden King has bloodied his sword already. So far we have turned aside all our foes, but I fear they will storm the lower levels and we will be surrounded.
- 'Do you have any good tidings for the king, or has all been lost? This night seems never-ending, and that is a trait it shares with the forces of Isengard!'
Objective 2
Háma, the door-ward of Théoden, stands before the Hornburg. He braces himself for news of the battle.
- Háma says, "This way."
- Háma says, "My King!"
- Háma says, "Stand not so near to the edge!"
- Háma says, "I fear the arrows of the Orcs might find you!"
- Théoden says, "You need not fuss over me, Háma."
- Théoden says, "I do not fear death."
Objective 3
Théoden stands atop the fortress, surveying his seemingly insurmountable foes.
- Théoden: 'My sword rests no longer in idleness! I am prepared to fight and die for my land and my people! It should have been so earlier, but for the honeyed words of Saruman, poured into my ear by his servant Gríma.
- 'But no longer! My place is here, in defence of my people until the very end. It will not be much longer.'
Objective 4
Théoden stands atop the fortress, surveying his seemingly insurmountable foes.
- Théoden says, "I do not think we will see another sunrise, <name>."
- Aragorn says, "The Orcs have almost overrun the north-west wall."
- Théoden says, "Then it is over!"
- Aragorn says, "It is not so, not yet!"
- Aragorn says, "<name>!"
Objective 5
Aragorn refuses to give in to despair. He intends to defend the Hornburg even as the Orcs threaten to overrun the fortress.
- Aragorn: 'If the Hornburg falls, there will be none left to safeguard the kingdom of Rohan. We must defend the fortress for as long as we can!
- 'There is no other choice left to us, <name>. It falls to us to save Rohan!'
Objective 6
- Fight alongside Aragorn in defence of the Hornburg
Aragorn refuses to give in to despair. He intends to defend the Hornburg even as the Orcs threaten to overrun the fortress.
- Aragorn says, "Follow me."
- Aragorn says, "That is not the last of them, <name>!"
- Théoden says, "For Rohan!"
- Théoden says, "Now this is a king's foe!"
- Théoden says, "Your death is upon you, beast!"
- Théoden says, "Know that it was Théoden, son of Thengel, who dealt the killing blow!"
- Háma says, "What is that?"
- Aragorn says, "Black powder! <name>! Quench the fuse!"
- Quench the fuse on the black powder bomb
King Théoden has slain a mighty war-troll, but the beast carried a black powder bomb with a lit fuse!
Objective 7
The fuse on the black powder bomb has been quenched, and the immediate danger has been avoided. Aragorn wishes to speak with you.
- Aragorn: 'That was quickly-done, <name>. You may have purchased us a reprieve, and saved the fortress from another of Saruman's sorcerous devices!
- 'We are safe, for now.'
Objective 8
- Listen to Aragorn and Théoden decide what can be done
The defenders have thrown back another of Saruman's assaults, but ten thousand Orcs remain outside the walls. Aragorn and Théoden must decide if anything can be done.
- Théoden says, "Safe?"
- Théoden says, "You speak of safety when ten thousand Orcs clamour outside these walls?"
- Aragorn says, "We slew these Orcs. So too will we slay the next."
- Háma says, "This troll met his end at your hand, Théoden King."
- Théoden says, "Aye, Háma."
- Théoden says, "But how many more will need ending before I reach my own?"
- Aragorn says, "We should get out of the open, Théoden."
- Aragorn says, "This way, <name>."
- Théoden says, "I will not cower within these walls until the end, Aragorn."
- Théoden says, "That is not the death of a king of Rohan."
- Aragorn says, "There are not many choices left to you, Théoden."
- Théoden says, "Not many, no... but this choice I do have."
- Théoden says, "Eorlingas!"
- Théoden says, "Riders, make ready!"
- Théoden says, "We will ride forth, and bring glorious battle to the Orcs!"
- Aragorn says, "Théoden, it will take time for your men to prepare."
- Háma says, "I will give you the time you need, my king."
- Háma says, "I will stand guard by your door one last time."
- Théoden says, "Háma..."
- Háma says, "No foe shall pass, my king!"
- Théoden says, "Go, my doorward."
- Théoden says, "Mount your steed, <name>."
- Théoden says, "You ride with us!"
Objective 9
- Mount your travelling steed and talk to Théoden
Théoden has asked you to join his riders on their assault from the Hornburg.
Mount your travelling steed and speak to Théoden.
- Théoden: 'We will ride from the Hornburg and bring deaths to the Orcs! Riders, to me! Let none fear to ride with us, for the bards will sing of our deeds long after we are gone!
- 'This is the hour of Rohan!'
Objective 10
- Ride with Théoden down the causeway into the waiting Orcs
Théoden leads a charge of his riders down the causeway into the waiting Orcs, and he has requested that you ride with him.
