Background
Did Bilbo venture into Giant Valley, and if he did, did he emerged again unharmed?
Objective 1
If Bilbo strayed into Giant Valley, there may yet be a friendly face willing to help recover him.
- Arifael may have seen our missing hobbit. The trick may be getting him to tell us!
- Arifael: 'This dangerous place, little <race>. If you say hobbit came to Giant Valley, hobbit in big danger. Not all his kin friendly as Arifael.
- 'But I will bring you to giant-dwellings in Stonemere. Maybe save little hobbit, if not too late.'
Objective 2
- Fight alongside Arifael and investigate Giant Valley
If Bilbo strayed into Giant Valley, there may yet be a friendly face willing to help recover him.
- Arifael says, "Watch your head."
- Arifael says, "Some of my kin followed Storvâgûn the Traitor to Helegrod, and left their dwellings empty."
- Arifael says, "Rock-worms and wood-trolls move in. We move them out while we look for hobbit!"
- Arifael says, "Let that be a lesson to all beasts: this be GIANT place!"
- Arifael says, "Hmm... no sign of missing hobbit."
- Arifael says, "Hobbit... missing."
- Arifael says, "Sorry, <name>."
- Arifael says, "I hear giant approaching! You better hide, <name>."
Objective 3
- Hide in the dwelling just north of Arifael, and quickly!
You should conceal yourself behind the hide-covered dwelling just north of Arifael, and quickly!
- Arifael says, "Hide in dwelling! Do not emerge!"
- This should be safe enough. Stay inside, and do not come out!
Objective 4
- Remain in hiding and listen to the conversation of the giants
- Do not be seen by Mendorn
Mendorn has arrived and is none-too-pleased to see Arifael.
- Mendorn says, "Arifael! What mischief brings you to my home?"
- Arifael says, "Your home? You gave up this place when you fell in with Storvâgûn!"
- Arifael says, "How does it feel to be Angmar's lackey?"
- Mendorn' : 'Bah! You are not one to talk, Arifael."
- Mendorn says, "Always friendly with little vermin."
- Mendorn says, "'Arifael is our pet, that is what they say."
- Arifael says, "Lies! Not true!"
- Arifael says, "But I not side with evil folk."
- Mendorn says, "What is that I smell?"
- Mendorn says, "Did some tiny creature take Arifael for walk?"
- Arifael says, "You smell rock-worms, that is all."
- Mendorn says, "No. Not rock-worms."
- Arifael says, "Wood-trolls, then."
- Mendorn says, "No. Not wood-trolls."
- Mendorn says, "I smell this, tiny pest!"
Objective 5
- Talk to Mendorn
- Arifael must not be defeated
Mendorn is prepared for combat.
- Mendorn:' 'I will squash you into jelly, tiny pest, and then do the same to your pet! He may look like giant, but he not actual giant.
- 'On the inside, he small like you!'
Objective 6
- Defeat Mendorn
- Arifael must not be defeated
Mendorn is prepared for combat.
- Mendorn says, "Die, tiny pest!"
- Mendorn says, "I give up! I give up!"
- Mendorn surrenders in defeat!
Objective 7
Arifael is satisfied that Bilbo never came here.
- Arifael: 'We put Mendorn into his place, and there he will stay! It will be some time before he dares fight with us again.
- 'I do not think he has seen your friend. Your Bilbo did not come this way.'
- Mendorn says, "I not see anything like that."
MISSION COMPLETE!
- Arifael: 'Return to Elves. Tell them Bilbo did not come this way. He must have gone somewhere else.
- 'Now so must you.'
