Walkthrough & Notes

This quest can appear during the defense of the southern gate-wall (Stage II) of the Epic Battle: Hammer of the Underworld. Its alternative is Epic Foe: Mâsorgh, Cleaver of Heads. A third alternative, available only in the fellowship version of the Battle, is Up from the Depths. This quest is similar to the side quest Preparing the Charge from Epic Battle: The Glittering Caves. A new area will open up towards the south [58.0N, 17.0W]. Ballistae and Barricades will spawn, defended by a number of Mordor Archers and Mordor Siege-workers. A Mordor Siege-leader spawns beyond them, on top of a tower similar to the catapult towers elsewhere on the gate-wall. Mordor Siege-workers, once aggroed, immediately set fire to the ballista they are standing next to. For full merit gain, the fire should be manually extinguished, or it will eventually destroy the ballista. Barricades should also be dismantled for full merit gain.

Background Forces of Mordor have overtaken part of the outer wall of Minas Tirith and intend to use Gondor's own siege weaponry against the inhabitants of the city. Objective 1 Defeat the siege-leader and his forces on the captured wall Defeat the forces of Mordor that have overtaken part of the wall of Minas Tirith before they can use Gondor's own siege equipment against it. Merit Rating This quest starts with empty Merit Rating.
