King Minardil Úmanwa (Quenya for Tower-friend the Unready) was the 25th King of Gondor.
He inherited the crown in TA 1621 following the death of his father, Hyarmendacil II Vinyarion, famed for his victory over the Haradrim in TA 1551.
Since the conclusion of the Kin-strife, the exiled followers of Castamir who had fled to Umbar continued to wage intermittent war against Gondor, launching coastal raids and attacking its shipping for many years.
In TA 1634, Minardil was slain at Pelargir during a surprise assault by the Corsairs of Umbar, led by two of Castamir's great-grandsons.
Throughout Minardil's short rule, the office of Steward was held by Húrin of Emyn Arnen. After Minardil's time, the kings of Gondor consistently selected their Stewards from Húrin's lineage, a pattern that eventually established the Stewardship as a hereditary post within the House of Húrin, who became the Ruling Stewards of Gondor centuries later.
Minardil ruled Gondor for only 13 years, and was succeeded by his son, Telemnar Sintavarda. He was honored with a statue and plaque on the Players' Tier of Minas Tirith, as well as the prominent King Minardil's Memorial in Pelargir.
