Fundin (Northern for Found) was a dwarf of the royal line of Durin's Folk, a great-grandson of King Náin II. He was the son of Farin and the elder brother of Gróin, and lived during the later years of the Third Age.

Fundin was likely born in the Lonely Mountain and went into exile with his people following the attack of the Dragon Smaug in TA 2770. He later fathered two sons, Balin and Dwalin, who would both become prominent among Durin's Folk.

He joined King Thráin's Haban'akkâ in the Sixth War of Dwarves and Orcs, in the hunt for Azog. During the Battle of Azanulbizar, the final and bloodiest conflict of the War of the Dwarves and Orcs, Fundin took part in the first assault against the East-gate of Moria. The vanguard was thrown back with heavy losses, and Fundin was driven into a wood by the Mirrormere, where he was slain alongside his kinsman Frerin and many others. After the battle, his body was burned upon a wooden pyre with the rest of the fallen. Years later, both his sons joined Thorin and Company in the quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain, and the raven Roäc recognized Balin as the son of Fundin.
