Náin II (Northern for Corpselike) was the King of Durin's Folk and King of Grárik for 97 years. He was the son of King Óin and heir of Durin the Deathless, being the four times great-grandson of Durin VI.[1]

Biography

Náin was born in the Ered Mithrin within the Grey-realm of Grárik, as the hereditary prince of the Longbeards. In TA 2488, he succeeded his father as King of Durin's Folk and the fourth King of Grárik. Náin was the last ruler of the Longbeards whose reign went untroubled in the Grey Mountains, before the dragons devastated the Grey-realm of Grárik shortly after his death. By the time of his rule however, the Watchful Peace had ended, and many dangers would soon confront the dwarves from all sides.

Náin II ruled until his death in TA 2585, aged 247. He was succeeded by his son Dáin I[2], who in four years would be slain by dragon-kind, and the Realm of Grárik lost.

Náin II was the common ancestor of many notable dwarves of Durin's Line. Náin had two sons: Dáin I and Borin, the first of whose descendants would continue through the Lines of Thrór and Grór. Borin on the other hand, was the ancestor of Balin, Dwalin, Óin, Glóin, and Gimli.
