Fréaláf Hildeson (Rohirric for Surviving Lord) was the 10th King of Rohan, and nephew to Helm Hammerhand, through Helm's sister Hild.

Born in T.A. 2726 in Rohan during the reign of his uncle Helm Hammerhand, young Fréaláf grew up during the contentious time when the Rohirrim were in direct conflict with their rivals the Dunlendings. Fréaláf and his kin had taken refuge in the mountain vale of Dunharrow during the devastating Long Winter in T.A. 2759, when the Dunlendings led by Wulf son of Freca overran the kingdom, and sacked Edoras. Thus it was that when King Helm and both his sons perished during the siege at the Deeping Coomb, Fréaláf became next in line to the throne, to which he then became the tenth King of Rohan.

Edoras however, was still under the occupation of Wulf, who had taken the throne of Meduseld for his own. With a small party of Rohirrim warriors, King Fréaláf entered Edoras and the Golden Hall in secret, and there before the throne struck down Wulf, thereby taking back his kingdom and driving back the invaders. Having then driven the Dunlendings beyond the Rivers Isen and Adorn, King Fréaláf was then approached by the wizard Saruman the White, who offered his service to the new lord. On Fréaláf's advice, Steward Beren of Gondor thus bestowed the keys and ownership of Isengard, once occupied by the Dunlendings, into the care of Saruman, provided that he defend it against the hill-men. Neither were aware of what Saruman's stewardship of the black tower of Orthanc would bring in the following centuries.

After a rule of 39 years, King Fréaláf passed away in T.A. 2798 at the age of seventy-two. He was succeeded by his son Brytta Léofa. The second line of Rohan's kings, which Fréaláf started, would last until the final days of the War of the Ring over two centuries later.
