I forgot to tell you, but I promoted you to ninja a while ago to make editing a bit easier. Keep up the good stuff! --Ravanel (talk) 12:07, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Disambiguation Pages

Hi there thanks so much for helping to add items to the wiki and creating disambiguation pages. Its good to see you editing again. I did want to note please be sure to link the items on the disambiguation pages vs tooltips so that it doesn't display a popup on pages where its linked via the Other template. You can see the format on the one I adjusted here for reference if it helps Item:Dwarf Steel Shoulder Guards of Fate its basically [[Item:name of item with (level specifier/other specifier)|Proper name with no Item: at beginning]]. If I can be of any help feel free to post on my talk page. If your not already a part of our Discord its really helpful for questions in quicker time typically than talk pages :) Eldalleth (talk) 14:03, 11 August 2022 (UTC)

Eglain Creature Rep

Hi CobaltBlues I edited your userpage to remove it from Eglain Creature Category I now see you have been using it from your userpage to copy to some pages you are working on I will go and fix those pages so they show on category my apologies. --Oakheart (talk) 01:18, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

Should be back in business

Sorry about that, sometimes the spam filters snags the wrong person. --Lotroadmin (talk) 18:58, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

Icon replacement

Hey there, thanks for your contributions to the wiki! About icon files --- if you're replacing an existing one, it's really best to use one that was never a .jpg. There are several programs you can use to capture screenshots in .png or other lossless formats --- I use Fraps (old school but really low resource requirements). Even if you've converted the .jpg file to a .png file the data loss already occurred when the .jpg screenshot was taken. This really isn't a big deal for most images, but since the icon images are so small, every pixel counts. You won't need to sharpen or brighten the images either if you start out with a lossless file (unless you play with brightness turned way way down, I suppose) because it will look exactly as it does in-game with no editing needed. I used to take a lot of time smoothing out .jpg artifacts from icon files before I realized I could use a different program to get clearer images in the first place! It saves tons of time, I can just crop and go. Also, it's important that you crop the icon right at the edges---with no black showing outside the border. Last thing is that the icons that have the long numbered filenames were pulled from the Item Treasury, I believe, and shouldn't be altered if I understand it right. Perhaps someone else can clarify since I'm not really up on that particular matter. Keep up the good work :) ~ Ruby (talk) 21:48, 9 September 2022 (UTC)

Many icons are so dark you can't tell what they are. Was hoping to submit brighter icons so they are easier to see. Cobalt Blues (talk) 00:20, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
I'm going to reply to this and the note you posted on my talk page both here. So yes, some of the icons, trophy ones especially, are dark.
I can generally see what they are, however, even if they're dark (although the ones that are supposed to look like indeterminate blobs arguably can't be seen better). Do you have blue light or other light sensitivities and have adjusted your monitor? My close friend has her brightness turned down in addition to other measures, and when we play LotRO together, there are sometimes things she can't see at all but I can. There is also the aspect that some of the older icons with more artifacts are harder to see because they're dark AND fuzzier than they should be. I did attempt to rectify that with some of the trophy icons you had marked as problematic, but that brings me to my next point . . .
We try to keep things like icons close to how they appear in game. So in this case, yes, in game as well, some of the trophy icons are dark and hard to distinguish. That's really on SSG's side to fix, not ours. Also, sad truth is that trophy icons aren't that important to see overall---images of NPCs, mobs, and areas are more critical on that front. If you really really think an icon is too dark, subtly brightening it and not sharpening it or otherwise changing it is more acceptable.
One other random thing I'd like to point out to you: when you go to the page [[Category:Stubs/Images]], there's a link for mobs/creatures needing an image. There are a few in there that only appear in lower-level/mid-level quests that aren't later accessible from a reflecting pool. Once a player has completed the quest, they can't go back and get an image. Since I see that you are leveling, it would be great if you would check some of those out and see if you can nab some of those. The same is true for a few of the NPCs needing images. ~ Ruby (talk) 20:42, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

Inspections

I'll let Stargazer answer about her own motivations and such, but I can provide some insight on this subject overall. Some of the inspections that were already on the pages were done from a level closer to the level of the mob, which we prefer. However, recently I haplessly reverted some inspections someone else did without checking the age of the previous ones, and that turned out to be a mistake on my part. So it may be that some of your edits should be kept---I haven't looked that closely and can't say either way. I'm sure your inspections come from values you're pulling in game, that's not in question. However, inspections do vary from character to character, so if an inspection on a mob page was done within the last four or five years and the level of the inspector was closer to the mob, there is no need to replace those. There are a ton of pages missing inspections entirely that are more important, and I see that you have filled many of those in, kudos. My LM is too high level for me to go back and get accurate data on lower level mobs, so it is much appreciated. ~ Ruby (talk) 20:56, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

Due to power creep I believe SSG has lowered the resistance values of creatures for all lower level content. Allowing players to more quickly get through the content. Thus all my inspections reveal this. I'm mostly upset because I literally created a Lore Master just for this purpose and spent dozens of hours collecting inspections from some hard to reach mobs just for the work to be undone. I almost want to quit doing all this work. Cobalt Blues (talk) 21:01, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
Yes, I agree that inspections have changed, although I don't think much in the last two or three years. I tend to leave any alone that are that recent, personally. The funny thing about inspections is that they can change for reasons that are not apparent so I've realized that they're not as helpful as perhaps they once were . . . or maybe they never were that accurate. Now, the lower level mobs could all have ancient inspections and needed updates---like I said, I didn't check that---so I'm not speaking about specifics at the moment since it's not really my place until the other party enters the conversation or has a separate one with you. Most importantly, LM is the best class (I'm biased) so do please enjoy it, don't just use it to do work! Overall that's something that's important to remember: if it feels like too much work, then take a break and enjoy the game for a while before getting back to it. ~ Ruby (talk) 21:24, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
I'll just go make my own wiki.... with blackjack and hookers! Just kidding. Thanks for the reply. Cobalt Blues (talk) 21:30, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
Just dropping in here to say that I did respond to you on my talk page earlier, Cobalt, with more or less the same explanation as Ruby gave above. Once again though; my apologies if you got upset, as that was never the intention. I hope you are okay! Obviously we don't want you quit. Ruby also raises a valuable point; about it being a game, meant for enjoyment, and that should come first and foremost! =) --Stargazer (talk) 21:52, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

Promotion

I meant to do this last week, but you're promoted to editor! Thanks for all your contributions so far :) ~ Ruby (talk) 02:25, 18 September 2022 (UTC)

Making Disambiguation Pages

Hi CobaltBlues!

When you change pages that used to be for a single, specific item, turning them into disambiguation pages for several versions of items with the same name, you need to be careful to check for other pages that were linking to that specific item (by using the "What links here" option on the sidebar) – e.g. through using the {{Reward}} template – and make sure to update all those pages to point to the correct item they previously were, rather than to the page you've turned into a disambiguation page. Otherwise, you'll be introducing template loop errors; where a template that was previously pointing to an item (and expecting a single item) is now instead pointing to a disambiguation page (i.e. a list of items), breaking the pages and ending up in a loop! Some examples that were causing these errors are this page and this page. So please be careful about turning existing pages into disambiguation pages.
As a tip: it's usually better to have the page moved (i.e. renamed) rather than recreating the page code on a new page in some other location and erasing the code on the old, existing page, for several reasons. :)

Thanks.

Oh No. I had no idea. Thanks for the info> I will correct the bad pages. Cobalt Blues (talk) 09:35, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
Don't worry; I have already fixed the broken pages that were causing errors (and it can sometimes be a bit tricky to track down as well). I just wanted to make you aware of the issue for future reference, so that you can keep it in mind for those situations. :) --Stargazer (talk) 12:23, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
