Lore
Ufthak appears in the The Lord of the Rings, Book Four, Chapter X, The Choices of Master Samwise. A subordinate of Shagrat, the Captain of the Garrison in Cirith Ungol, Ufthak vanished on patrol, and was poisoned and wrapped up by Shelob to be eaten later. As Shagrat and Gorbag made their way to the Under-gate with the captured Frodo Baggins, they saw Ufthak encased in thick webbing, but decided against freeing him, not wishing to incur the wrath of Shelob.
