This is actually about 80% public dungeon and 20% world instance.... the question is, how do we want to categorize something like that? I'd say Public dungeon. --Fedaykin 11:10, 15 March 2008 (PDT)

Yup. But the GG's Throne Room can be categorised separately as Instance. (Is Gollum's Cave private?) DancesInTrees 12:57, 15 March 2008 (PDT)

EDIT ALEMSI : I never read such a bad description to go to Goblin-town. In addition, many things stated above are wrong - like they tell to go left where it should be right. It's extremely simple: go to Himbar town from South. While at Himbar, go North a couple of Miles and leave Gashru goblin camp AT YOUR LEFT (and not right like said): you should see a bridge close to Gashru that goes beyond. Jump and crack your bones. The main entrance is right in front of you at 50 meters. Alemsi, Sirannon —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Alemsi (Contribs • User Talk).

No need to sling mud - just update it to be correct next time. You might also want to make sure you're providing the correct information: Himbar is in Angmar, Hrimbarg is in the Misty Mountains. Sethladan 12:20, 23 September 2011 (EDT)
A year later. The travel routes for The Black Crack and The Mountain's Throat are quite fair I think. I may add Hrimbarg as that is the Stable-master entry and not all players may have access to neither the Camp Site Fire nor the milestone of Vindurhal right away, but a the stable-master is always available after you first found it. -- Zimoon 11:47, 7 September 2012 (EDT)

Goblin-town, an Area?

Having read the above I kind of have a split mind. Yes, we "port into" this location, hence it could count as "dungeon", whether public or world. The system message reads "Goblin-town" in yellow, indicating it is an area, though then under the radar it reads "Goblin-town Tunnels" ... odd. Actually, the only thing we know for sure is that it is not an instance you can join via the instance finder dialogue.

Comparing to other true world instances, such as Lost Temple and Stoneheight, this is vast. However, they also read their names in yellow for "area", even a bit outside the entrance. But those can be entered via the instance finder dialogue, Goblin-town can not.

Considering the size and that it contains several Landmarks I'd go for Area rather than dungeon. Think of it as similar to Moria, which is a region but mainly, if not all?, under-hill. If certain locations happens to be instanced, fine, no problem. But treating an entire area as a dungeon feels off. Objections?

I can definitely see the support for structuring it as an area - it's not contained within another area (right?), it has its own landmarks within, and it also contains a world instance (Great Goblin's Throne Room). The question might become whether "Goblin-town" or "Goblin-town Tunnels," and I will defer to Zimoon on which is better as I have only briefly walked around in there a long time ago.
(An interesting side note, though - is the map fully revealed when you enter, or must it be explored? If the latter, then it starts to seem more like a dungeon again, right?) Sethladan 13:24, 7 September 2012 (EDT)
Yeah, I also see those points, and they are indeed valid. No, the map must be explored. It is, per Turbine's definitions, an area, understood from what I mentioned above. However, so are also all large instanced dungeons. Of course, we may be flexible and pragmatic. I guess most visitors do not even bother with our "linguistic" nonsense but want the information structure in the best way possible. Area provides the best way to list its content, squeezing everything into one dungeon page is maybe not good (but I have just scraped the surface yet, two or three initial quests).
Hehe, yeah, with or without Tunnels that is the question. With this one I would go with the Bree vs. Bree-town reasoning: Tolkien never used the term "Goblin-town Tunnels" but just "Goblin-town". And only once, in a song in The Hobbit. He used the combination "goblin-tunnels"...again only once. But he wrote about tunnels a lot. So from that the anomaly Goblin-town Tunnels do not exist, but tunnels dug by goblins indeed exist, plenty of them, black and winding.
But that would turn everything upside down with Rivendell [Valley] :(
I think I just shot myself in the foot. -- Zimoon 14:48, 7 September 2012 (EDT)
