Bestowal Dialogue

Parchments spread upon a table outside the central keep of Starkhaven paint a disturbing picture:

"You tell Khâtiph I am not one to be intimidated. I know the one he follows is just one man, and Heirs of Castamir have been slain before; who is to say the son of Balakhôr could escape that fate? If they think to oppose me, remind them of this: I possess the authority to open the Weirway Gate.

'You may be too young to remember the last time it was opened. Count yourself fortunate! It stands behind the central keep of Starkhaven, and is accessed by a wooden walkway. The Weirway Gate holds back the flood, and when it is opened it allows water from Sûg Nidar to spill through the channel, flooding all of forested Adagím to the south. My predecessor used it to control the water level of the lake when the season of the rains seemed to have no end.

'If they move against me, I will open the gate. I have already given the command to one of my trusted men who lives by the plaza of the lion. If anything happens to me he will deliver the parchment with that command, and the Weirway Gate will open. None will shut it ever again, and Sûg Nidar will move to the south, leaving their ships stranded and the Kintai forest underwater!

'Know these are the words of Ghómbok Bóro, and he means every one!'

Background

You have learned that Ghómbok Bóro, a commander of Ordâkh, possesses a dangerous authority.

Objective 1

Parchments spread upon a table outside the central keep of Starkhaven describe the dangerous authority of Ghómbok Bóro.

Objective 2

  • Find the walkway near the Weirway Gate, located behind the central keep of Starkhaven
  • Appraise the danger posed by the opening of the Weirway Gate

You should find the Weirway Gate behind the central keep of Starkhaven and appraise the danger if it is opened.

Objective 3

  • Completed

You have appraised the danger posed by the opening of the Weirway Gate, and found it to be substantial.

Completed: Judging from the location of the Weirway Gate, you determine that the words of Ghómbok Bóro are no bluff: Adagím lies to the south, and if the gate is opened the waters of Sûg Nidar will flow through the channel into the forest in a dangerous torrent. It seems clear to you that it was the previous opening of the Weirway Gate that caused so much of Adagím to become the treacherous swamp-land it is today.
Ghómbok Bóro entrusted a parchment containing the command to open the Weirway Gate to a trusted man living at "the plaza of the lion." He must live somewhere nearby, perhaps to the south-east. It is time to knock on some doors!

Objective 4

The man possessing Ghómbok Bóro's command lives to the south-east of the Weirway Gate, not far from the courtyard displaying an impressive lion statue.

As you knock on the door, the man you seek returns home!
Ghómbok's Trusted Man says, "You there! Defy my master Ghómbok"
You pry the letter containing Ghómbok Bóro's command from the man's fingers

Objective 5

 Ghómbok Bóro's Command

The command to open the Weirway Gate is too dangerous. You should burn it in a nearby brazier.

The parchment containing Ghómbok Bóro's command burns quickly and is gone

Objective 6

  • Completed

You have saved the residents of Adagím from Ghómbok Bóro's command... at least for now.

Completed: You have saved the residents of Adagím from the devastation that could have been caused by the opening of the Weirway Gate, at least for now. You will need to find some way to oppose the Song without endangering the peaceful Kintai of Sul Madásh, or any others who live in the lands through which Sûg Nidar would flood at Ghómbok Bóro's command.
