Off Tank

The Off Tank is an MMORPG concept centred on somewhat reduced armor, survivability, and threat-generation, but higher damage output in melee situations.

Off-Tanks often have abilities that allow them to damage multiple targets more effectively than other classes, and some may have modest healing skills. Thus, even with the reduced armor, they are still more capable than other classes of surviving once the enemy begins to attack.

Off-tanks are expected to generate threat in the event the main tank is defeated or is otherwise incapable of tanking (stunned, dazed, etc).

• In LOTRO, Champions, Wardens, Beornings, and Captains (to some extent) are the Off-Tanks. Lore-masters can use their Bear pet as an off-tank.

• Note that wardens have poor ability to generate quick threat, which makes it very difficult for a Warden to pull an enemy off of a player.
