I noticed in the new Recipe template that the onlyinclude tags are not present - was this a conscious change because we don't want to use them anymore or is the assumption that if they were there before they should be retained when converting to the new template? --Gaerlin 20:38, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

It was intentional that I left it out, though with the current problems I am having with the recipe template I am not sure if it was important to the code or not. I just did a test, adding in the code (both noinclude and includeonly just like the tooltip template but it did not seem to have any effect on the template. Rogue 00:56, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Also, the field name "Only One Use" doesn't really follow the standard for template field names, which typically do not have spaces in them. Should the field properly be called "only-one-use"? --Gaerlin 20:45, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

I wasn't really aware that there was a standard for template fields, but I suppose it could be changed. I honestly didn't even think about it. I'll change this. Rogue 00:56, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Cook Recipe Indexes & Optional

  • The Cost column is really an exception for Cook recipes, because a recipe can need lots of ingredients bought from the cook vendors, so it gives a good idea of the total cost for a cook crafting session. For any other craft class, there is usually only 1 item that needs to be bought, all others being self-made (leather, ingots, planks using the negligible wax), so it's not considered useful.
  • For the Optional: item, I was planning to remove it in all indexes, having it in the column header, but had time so far to do it for Cook, Jeweller, Scholar & partially Weaponsmith so far (Prospector & Forester don't have/need it).
  • I'd like eventually to spread the following table headers everywhere, to have a consistent look:
Craft Item
Critical Success
Recipe Components
Optional Mastery Component
Craft
XP
or for guild recipes
Craft Item Recipe
Cooldown
Components Craft
XP
  • For Basic, Vendor or Dropped, I had that idea in the past (maybe have also Single Use, Guild or Barter), would be nice to add, if there is no objections and if you have time ;) --Goingbald 01:41, 22 October 2010 (EDT)
  • Thanks Goingbald - I have removed the cost column from other pages and will start rolling out this template to other pages. (Might be next week before I keep going) Gunsod 02:17, 22 October 2010 (EDT)

Farming changes

Farming was simplified in the last patch:

  • A lot of specific seeds have been replaced by more generic versions - e.g. Item:Apprentice Crop Seed is used for all Apprentice-level farming, rather than, say, Item:Carrot Seed.
  • There are no "Poor" outputs.
  • There are no "Seed" recipes.

As a general clean-up, (when an admin gets some spare time) could we:

I will be working through and updating Index pages and Recipes as I get the time. -- Eadangar 15:28, 30 December 2010 (EST)

I'll let some Pipe-weed seeds in, they are still existing but can't tell from which field they're harvested. --Goingbald 17:16, 30 December 2010 (EST)
  • According to the developer notes, hybrid seeds, e.g. Item:Muddy Foot Seed can be found when harvesting from pipe-weed fields of the same tier or one below. All Apprentice Farmer pipe-weed field recipes now have a chance to produce Journeyman-tier hybrid pipe-weed seeds. Similarly, Journeyman pipe-weed fields have a chance to produce Expert-tier hybrid seeds as well as an increased chance for additional Journeyman-tier hybrid seeds. -- Eadangar 18:16, 30 December 2010 (EST)
  • Cleanup done, let know if some more need to be removed. :) --Goingbald 19:17, 30 December 2010 (EST)
  • Great! The cleanup has uncovered 40 redirects that can now be deleted, too, see Special:BrokenRedirects. I've checked them all and nothing links to them. -- Eadangar 11:58, 2 January 2011 (EST)

Woodworker Supreme Recipe Index

I've been updating the Woodworker recipes, starting with Supreme (hah, still on Supreme, too, lots of work let to do!) since it was missing all the level 65 legendary weapons and new recipes (e.g. Supreme Nestad Parchment), just for a start. I think I've got the complete list of recipes/items now, excluding the Malledhrim recipes. The problem is that the page is huge. It's at the top of the list on the "long pages" list in the things to do section, in fact. I've put in all the multi-output titles, so that leaves it short the eight or so Malledhrim recipes -- thankfully that won't make it that much longer. I think last time I edited it the page was 139 kb.
Any suggestions on how to deal with it? The size warning mentions some browsers only being able to load 32 kb, so I'm wary that it might cause some people problems. I thought of the collapsible/nested tables, which would help with the visible length of the loaded page, but I think it would add to the size when editing. Rubyctook

Recipe Drop Information

Hi, if we want to gradually put more information on recipe pages, when the recipe is available as a drop, what are the levels that should be mentioned, any idea? Is it written somewhere else yet? If I check hides' drop information from beasts, T1 = 1-13, T2 = 13-25, T3 = 25-34, T4 = 35-43, T5 = 44-50 & T6 = 51+, does it seem similar for humanoids? --Goingbald (talk) 22:23, 25 July 2011 (EDT)

Current Status of Recipes/Crafting

I've been cleaning up the Cook items and found a number of things that could use broad cleaning up - many of those are mentioned on this page - but it seems the table with check marks of current work in progress needs to be reset. I've been thinking of doing that work in progress table separately for each of the TODOs, and for each crafting group... and then instead of check marks, we could put an abbreviation for when it was last updated, e.g. "U4" for post update 4, "RoI" for Pose Isengard, "U5" for post the coming Update 5. That way we'd know what is "oldest" as well as what is in need of review after any update. Here's a proposal for the table:

Thoughts? Artifact (talk) 17:45, 22 November 2011 (EST)

I like this idea. Some people might find a table like that excessive, but others (myself included) like to see things laid out so it's easy to tell what needs to be done or updated. I also very much like the idea of indicating the update number, rather than just a checkmark. The tricky part is how to make sure it stays updated, because if it starts getting out of touch with what people are editing in the wiki it's not really useful any more. One thing I am glad about is that Update 5 doesn't seem to have planned any major crafting changes. -- Elinnea (talk) 09:50, 23 November 2011 (EST)

I'm not sure yet how to track what is done & what is to do, but here is another dump of ideas/suggestions of things to do:

  • Update reputation item recipes
    • Cooldown is now reduced by 6h (wondering to create a small template like {{Recipe-cooldown|Small}})
      • 1 day --> 18 hours
      • 3 days --> 2 days 18 hours
      • 1 week --> 6 days 18 hours
    • Standing to change
      • Neutral --> Guild Initiate
      • Acquaintance --> Apprentice of the Guild
      • Friend --> Journeyman of the Guild
      • Ally --> Expert of the Guild
      • Kindred --> Artisan of the Guild
  • Still T7 Westfold recipes to enter (guild recipes with standing "Master of the Guild")
  • Recipe page to update
    • Recipe part (see Template:Recipe):
      • Parameters that can removed: main-category, consumed & type
      • Parameters to add: lotrostore & stack
    • Crafting part (see Template:Crafting)
      • Parameter to rename: image --> icon
      • Parameters to add: Multi-output, Critical-Trophy-use & Critical-Result-icon (still lots of generic icons could be used everywhere)
    • Rename additional section Vendors --> Item Information
      • if recipe is offered by vendor(s), that is almost always already there
      • recipes producing class related items to review, they don't seem to be all offered anymore by the crafting class NPCs (ex.: most of hunter traps were not offered anymore by the Expert Weaponcrafter but only from the Hunter Trainer)
      • if recipe is dropped, can use the template Recipe-drop (ex.: {{Recipe-drop|Tier=2|Profession=Tailor}} used Item:Minor Commoner Herald Armaments Recipe & more tailor recipes)
      • if recipe is offered at LOTRO Store, even if parameter lotrostore was used, add a reminder with a link to the proper page (ex.: This recipe is also available at [[LOTRO Store Crafting#Tailor Recipes|LOTRO Store]])
  • For multi-output recipes, in section Other Outputs, use template Reward in a grid (ex.: Item:Superb Leather Armour Recipe)
  • Categories should be discussed, default categories are currently all linking to huge useless categories currently

--Goingbald (talk) 15:44, 3 March 2012 (EST)

One thing more: the guild recipes link to the person they can be bought from in the original guild, but now they can also be purchased in Galtrev, and who knows whether any more guild representatives will be added to new regions of the game? It would be better if the text were more generic.
That's quite a list there! I guess there's always going to be more to do. :) -- Elinnea (talk) 15:33, 9 March 2012 (EST)

Update to the main Project page --

1- I have recently updated Help:Crafting and begun to update Lotro-Wiki.com:Crafting -- please examine these pages and add corrections/updates as you may find them.

2- A new Template - Template:Crafting, which is used by Create new recipe, is being introduced (August 2012). In addition to "fixing" a number of issues with parameters, this revised template will also "automagically" use {{Template:Lootbox}} to display the results of the recipe.

3- Comment on the list above:

  • Standing to change
  • Neutral --> Guild Initiate
  • Acquaintance --> Apprentice of the Guild
  • Friend --> Journeyman of the Guild
  • Ally --> Expert of the Guild
  • Kindred --> Artisan of the Guild
The current Top Level title (one assumes it was previously Kindred) is "Master of the Guild", but I'm not certain of the context of the list.

4- The goal of the update to this "Projects" page is to include those things

  • are incorrect or simply outdated on the page
  • Identify things which need to be done routinely with each update
  • Identify things which need to be done to "Update," "Correct," or "Standardize" various pages.

I suspect that I will reorganize the page to reflect these two things... they are "sort of" implied by the headings "Things to do" and "Work in Progress."

Might need three headings like, "Things to do Routinely with every release/update", "Things needing to be done" and "Things being done (WIP)".

Suggestions?

I will begin to incorporate things from this page as I or anyone inserts them into the project page.

5- It has been announced that there will be a T8 crafting update in RoR. No details have been release yet. (New tools have been promised!!!! Yeah!

6- We do need to update the parent page (and others related Help pages) on a much more regular basis!

7- Do we want to track who's doing what?

8- Should we convert this talk page to Liquid Threads?

9- phew... Wm Magill - Valamar - OTG/OTC (talk) 18:01, 7 August 2012 (EDT)

I've never gotten into the habit of using the Project pages, I'm afraid, probably because when I looked at most of them they have usually been out of date, and there aren't all that many contributors around here to require coordination. But I could see how the pages like this would be very useful to a newcomer, trying to decide where to pitch in, or as reminders of long-ago undertaken tasks that were never finished, by me or someone else. Just a couple thoughts on these comments:
3: The Master of the Guild level was added on top of the previous Kindred, when all the guild reputation levels were renamed and the new Westfold tier added at the same time. The guild levels were correctly updated at Crafting Guild and on some of the recipes, but not all. Just checking quickly, the Cook recipes have been changed, but the Jeweller, Tailor, and Weaponsmith guild recipes are still not updated. The guild recipe vendors are also woefully incomplete. This would be a good thing to clean up before RoR is released. I guess that's the kind of information that should be going on the Project page, and not here on the Talk page. Hum.
4: I love the idea of making a list of things to be done routinely with updates. That would be very useful, even if this page is not regularly updated, and since crafting information is spread out across items, recipes, indexes, NPCs, locations, and even the LOTRO Store page, it can be very easy to miss something. I would give it its own subsection under Things To Do called "Routine Updates" or somesuch. -- Elinnea (talk) 19:51, 7 August 2012 (EDT)
No to converting to Liquid Threads! Just no.
I have seen some kind of crafting checklist. I can't remember where, and given that it is not linked well to the crafting pages, so it is not easy to find, I'll leave it to someone else to track down. If it was linked at the top of the craft talk pages, it would be useful to everyone, rather than just the ones who remember where it is.
- RingTailCat (talk) 20:22, 7 August 2012 (EDT)
I guess the check list is not that hard to find as it is on the main page from this one, dooh. RingTailCat (talk) 20:24, 7 August 2012 (EDT)
