Grór (Northern for Grower), son of Dáin I, was the first Lord of the Iron Hills and younger brother to Thrór and Frór. He is the father of Náin Orcsfoe and grandfather of Dáin II Ironfoot. Grór dwelt at Thikil-gundu when the Longbeards still kept their holdings in the Grey Mountains, before Vethúg Wintermind drove them out, killing both his father and his elder brother Frór. Thrór II, now King of Durin's Folk, took a portion of their people to Erebor, but Grór went farther east and built up the strength of the Iron-folk at Járnfast. Grór fought at the Battle of Azanulbizar in vengeance for his brother Thrór who was brutally killed and mutilated by Azog.
