Finduilas was a Noldor Elf princess of the First Age. She was the daughter of Orodreth, ruler of Nargothrond, and the sister of Gil-galad.
History
Finduilas lived in Nargothrond with her father under the oversight of Finrod Felagund. She was betrothed to Gwindor, who was captured during the Battle of Unnumbered Tears by Morgoth, but returned years later accompanied by a young warrior going by the name "Agarwen". Unknown to Finduilas, this was Túrin Turambar, son of Húrin Thalion.
Despite her prior love for Gwindor, Finduilas fell for Túrin, who reminded her of Lalaith, his sister who had died in childhood. Gwindor recognized her feelings and revealed Túrin’s identity to her in an effort to prevent a romantic attachment.
During the sack of Nargothrond, Finduilas was captured by Orcs. Gwindor ordered Túrin to protect her, but Túrin, deceived by the great dragon leading the attack, was unable to intervene as she was dragged away. Later, when the Orcs were confronted by the Haladin at a river crossing, Finduilas was killed and pinned to a tree. The Haladin later buried her in a mound they named "Mound of the Elf-maiden".
