Effects
Using this skill applies Swordplay: Check-step to the Mariner. This effect is consumed by the next Swordplay skill.

The following skills are empowered when they are the next Swordplay skill used after Check-step:
- Disengage heals the Mariner. If traited in yellow-line, it additionally heals the fellowship.
Trait Interactions
- The trait Balanced Techniques in the Duellist trait tree increases the damage of this skill by up to 25%.
- The trait A Step Back in the Duellist trait tree makes this skill shift the Mariner up to 3 additional steps aft-ward.
- The trait Coordinated Movement in the Rover trait tree makes Disengage heal the fellowship when used after this skill.
- The trait Test Defences in the Duellist trait tree makes this skill tier up Critical Aim on the Mariner upon Critical hit, up to 3 stacks. Further ranks allow the effect to tier up to 5 stacks.
- The trait Sharpened Blades in the Duellist trait tree increases the damage of this skill by up to 10%.

Tactical Information
Check-step is an important skill for Red-line Mariners, as it increases the damage of all Fore-ward skills. This skill is commonly used before Compound Attack, but should be used off cooldown.
