Bounder Boffin is first encountered patrolling the roads near Old Odo's Leaf-farm during the Hobbit intro, in the period leading up to the Assault on Archet. Since Boffin is an arachnophobe he was in desperate need of help fighting off spiders while he cut his way through web about farm in an effort to escape a Black Rider.
